I assume you need a scooped EQ for this specialist item.

You need to use that version with a special Creamery pick up for that mint-ed sound.

Think this is going well off topic so i'm gonna stop now and just say that obviously my concentration and commitment to bass playing during Covid is fading and i'm only spoon feeding my addiction.

I've spent more time than ever on practice - probably 5 times per week over the past year.  I've been getting the most out of my Scott's Bass Lessons subscription, I'll say that.  I've gone from being quite lax to quite disciplined, and my technique and understanding of theory have improved.  Over the first lockdown, I learnt how to play fingerstyle from scratch, having been a pick-only player since my teens, which was a long time ago...  Now I rarely pick up a pick - wouldn't have believed that a year ago.  Having no gigs to work towards has allowed me to be a bit more free in terms of the songs I've been learning to play.  I can't really put my finger on why I've got so deep into the bass over the lockdowns, as my attention span for other hobbies has been smashed to bits!  I hardly did any reading last year, for example.

I think it just never goes away and sometimes when u play a fill or lick to a great tune or even after 45 years u sense that ur technique is improving there's nothing like it...it feels darn good.

I swore three years ago Id never even pick up a bass again cause I thght drums would be easier! (I played as a teen) ...haha and here I am plucking away like a good un. Guess u can take the player away from the bass but not the bass outta the player

Are the SBL lessons worthwhile. I keep meaning to just dig out reading material on theory and push myself a bit more but never seem to get round to it.

A subscription might be the way to push me a bit more.

Dave

I think so. There's absolutely tons of stuff on there, including courses on theory. You can still get a 14 day free trial I believe, so you can have a look around and see if it's what you're after.

I would say so.  I've got a lot out of them - I became a 'Lifer' for about £120 three years ago.

There's quite a few free lessons licking around - maybe have a look through those and see if his style works for you. He has a few detractors but I find his way of doing things works well for me - plus there are many other tutors doing lessons for him too.

I previously posted that my playing hadn’t improved and may have even taken a retrograde step. However, this has all changed. Since recently taking delivery of a new short scale bass (a JMJ Mustang) I’ve been playing way more and I think my chops have never been better. I don’t think it’s just a matter of playing more (although this is certainly a factor) but also taking to the new scale like a duck to water. This could well be the way of the future for me scale wise.

I have basses and guitars to hand in the room where I'm working so pick on up 5 or 6 times a day for 5-10 minutes.  So more than usual.  I've put the ashtrays on one of my basses and have been completely adjusting my right hand style to suit.  I used to anchor my thumb on the neck pickup, but now I'm resting my thumb across the strings, almost jamerson style, and resting fingers 3 and 4 on the astray.  Seems to be working well, feels less tiring and a little faster.
