Paul S
Was watching this clip and wondered about the bass - looks like a '51 style P but with 2 single coil pickups - would this have been a production model?
ped
The bridge pickup is a jazz shape so guess it's a modification?

PlungerModerno
Another angle: Looks like a slab body, I don't know if they sold them with 4 saddle bridges... that might be a mod too.

baldwinbass
In '76 Charlie said "I've got a Telecaster bass guitar, a Peavey box, 200 watt top. a little Phaser box, a Solo 100 Phaser, a Mutron." - and I agree it's seen some mods. JottoSW1
A pretty comprehensive selection of effects for a Bassist from way back when. Have to admit it was a Band that rather passed me by at the time. Should probably give them a try via utoob given the reputation conferred so many years later.
franzbassist
The current Squier Paranormal is rather similar, albeit a J shape body. 2

Yeah, I don't "get" that pickguard configuration at all, though I've heard they're pretty acceptable instruments. Must admit I still like my VM Jazz, apart from the excessive weight.
Hellzero
Looks more like a 1971 Fender Telecaster Bass with an added Jazz Bass bridge pickup and a more useable Precision/Jazz bridge. 3

Which is exactly what it is, I believe.
