BassManGraham
Have an opportunity to acquire a second silver face, but it needs a new tube. I think it is very similar to pic of the one I own. Does anybody know which tube this need. Cheers
Bassman68
I seem to recall them having a 12ax7 in the preamp valve in the SMX series? Yours should be the same, best contact somewhere like Watford valves (if they’re still going?) Edited February 12, 2021 by Bassman68
franzbassist
Yep, a single 12AX7 as I recall.
BassManGraham
Thanks guys. Have tried Walford valves, who are still trading, but only talk calls Monday to Thursday. Cheers
BassmanPaul
An ECC83 is the same thing.
Downunderwonder
I'd be surprised if it isn't a 12ax7 / ECC83, but it will be printed on the circuit board for good measure.

And on the original valve for identification purposes, hopefully. Shouldn't be hard to change if it was anything like my old SMX. Just don't handle the valve with your bare hands (as per car headlight bulbs- for more or less the same reason, I'm told)
BassmanPaul
No problem handling B9A pre-amp tubes with your fingers, They don't get hot enough for the oils on your fingers to make a difference. Even output tubes won't be bothered either. They are not like headlamp bulbs.
