TrevorR
Of my 4 electric basses, 3 fall into this category. My Aria SB700 - my first bass back in 1982. An 18th birthday pressie from my mum and dad. My 1985 Wal Mk 1 Custom. Bought in about 1992 and my No 1 ever since. My 1979 Wal Pro IIE. Bought in about 2001 and a lovely bass. My other bass is a Frankenjazz and I’ve no idea if anyone would ever want it. Fab bass too, though! thodrik
All my basses from left to right: Vigier Arpege, Vigier Excess, 1979-ish Fender Precision, Sadowsky NYC V, Sadowsky Metro, 1974 Gibson EB3. The NYC is the only bass I have bought in the last ten years. I would maybe sell the EB3 because I don’t use it, but I have been thinking that for nearly 15 years and still haven’t sold it. I would never ever sell the Precision. I would only sell the other ones if I was desperate for cash which I hope never has to happen. The original Sadowsky ‘stock’ photo of the NYC is gorgeous so that would be a tough one to let go too...
bigthumb
My 1995 US Precision. Nothing remarkable but just an excellent PBass. I've made so many howling mistakes over the years selling superb basses that should have been keepers. A cracking featherweight 1973 Precision I sold for way under its true value being my greatest mistake. I have had to sell basses due to financial reasons but sadly some due to GAS which I have all too often regretted shortly after.
silverfoxnik
This is the bass I'll never sell because I absolutely love the way it plays and sounds, and musicians who I work with and respect, say I play better on it than any of my other basses.. It's a passive 1984 BC Rich Eagle. It can been in the two pictures below.. Thanks to Andy for modelling it so well for me at the 2019 South East Bass Bash.

David, I had a Wal Pro Bass around 1990, really didn't gel with it and took it back to the shop and the boy gave me credit on the amount I'd paid for it, which bought me a new Hohner Jack. Cost £350. I'm that craddock that did that , that everybody hears about. I then chopped the Hohner in for an old Fender Jazz in Daphne Blue which I eventually sold for £650. Go and look up what years they made a Daphne Blue jazz with non painted headstock and consider that I selt it for £650. Another instance when I was a total fud.
walshy
This is THE one. It will never ever be sold, and as you all know I buy and sell too much. This is the Lakland Bob Glaub owned by Nate Mendel. As seen on the Pretender Vid, live at Wembley 2008, album recordings etc...amongst many other appearances. Obviously being in a Foos tribute I had to have it but it’s more than that. It’s an absolutely amazing machine. So well built, I mean flawless and is easily the best P bass I own, and I have a lot! The sound with the Fralin pick ups in are mega and it plays amazingly well. Looks class, loads of mojo, sounds great, nice history and provenance. It’s lush and it’s mine 🤘 Couple of pics from Foo Fighters 606 Studio.
binky_bass
Among a few others, I will never sell Binky or my USA Conklin 8. They are simply the best instruments I have ever seen/heard/owned. 2

moley6knipe
My BTB! It’s so big and heavy it doesn’t get much gig time (well, you know what I mean!) but I can’t ever let it go. Loads of gigs with this over the years, chips, dings, scratches, my thumb’s worn a hole in the front pickup. Sounds amazing too... USA Bart pups and pre. I think they’re real marmite basses these... 19mm on a fiver and a flat neck aren’t for everyone. Let alone the looks. 2005 Korean (weirdly.... not Japan!) BTB1205 Prestige. £760 new from Sound On Sound (I think!) in Feb 2006. 11lbs on the nose Edited February 13, 2021 by moley6knipe
la bam
I'd love to think theres at least one bass that I'd never sell, but regardless how much I love them or say I'll never sell them - I always do! Just looking at my current collection (about 7) I didnt have any of them this time last year. But I did have a bass I'd said I'd never sell - a black and gold fender precision fsr midnight. Gees, I shouldnt have sold that, it was a work of art, but hey ho. I kinda like the idea I'm not gonna be devastated if I have to sell one.

luckman67
MY 1964 Hofner Violin Bass bought in Nov 88, & has been with me ever since. This is my most cherished possession 😍.
Beer of the Bass
At the moment the basses I would never sell are the only ones I have. A 4 string bass I built over 20 years ago, now fretless, a 5 string bass I built later on, and my old double bass. The DIY builds are too personal to me to sell, and would have hardly any market value anyway, and the double bass is as good sounding a bass as I'm likely to ever be able to afford, even if it's quite scruffy looking. Bassassin
The one I'd grab in a fire is this: It's a 1980-ish MIJ Jazz copy, branded CSL. This was a £60 pawn shop find which I'd intended to clean up, restring & flip for £100 profit, if I was lucky. Looked like this when I brought it home: When I sat down, tuned it up & played it, unmatching 20-year-old dead stings & all, I couldn't put it down. Simply the nicest bass I've ever played. I've had it around 17 years now and it's evolved to the point everything's changed apart from the neck, body & tuners. I have a frankly silly number of basses but it's my go-to, feels more 'right' than anything else I've ever played.
Paulhauser
I don't have a vast collection and don't want to sell any of them for the time being. But I had to, these would be the ones I'd hold on to. 1. Spector NS-5XL buckey burl top, walnut back, maple neck with pau ferro fingerboard, EMG40DCX pickups with haz lab preamp. Thi is the best bass I ever had, it records so well and has that extra in it that makes me pick it up over my others most of the time. I don't gig it as I don't want to risk it being stolen, damaged etc 2. Spector Euro5XL heavily modded and refinished. Not much to say, this plays and sounds great, the reason for keeping is sentimental, I have recorded some important music with it and played a lot of gigs. 3. Spector Pre-LX Euro 5 with East preamp, P/J pickups in soapbar housing, refinished, shaved neck. Same as the purple above, got a lot of gigs with it worth a lot more for me I could ever got on the 2nd hand market for it. And play this to this day eventhough it is a backup bass for my other Spector I play live now.
Owen
I have not played my 66 Jazz in anger for 20 years or more. I should sell it. I have owned it for 35 years. I am struggling to let it go! 2
