Nail Soup
If I thought I could get away with it, I'd suggest the following to my Punk/New wave band: 1 - Damaged Goods - Gang of Four 2 - Death Disco - Public Image Ltd 3 - Totally Wired - The Fall Edited February 17, 2021 by Nail Soup
Lozz196
For rock & funky pop, if not already in the set I’d put in: Play That Funky Music White Boy - Wild Cherry
upside downer
I'm with @Nail Soup on this one, I could only dream of getting anyone to try these. And I've tried, oh, how I tried. Holiday in Cambodia - Dead Kennedys Bikini Girls With Machine Guns - The Cramps Poptones - Public Image Ltd Let's (alternative) rock! Now, I just need some gigs! Oh, and a willing band. Hmmm. TheGreek
Stuff I'd like to hear, but haven't: Ride on Time - Black Box 25 Miles - Edwin Starr ...and thanks to @Nail Soup, "Black Betty" by Ram Jam Band (that's the version I'm most familiar with). I would lists lots of Motown tunes but they'd only be ruined.... Edited February 19, 2021 by TheGreek

grandad
Except for 1 or 2 I'm not familiar with most tunes listed so far. I would start my set for my imaginary country/folk/jazz/rock band with: 1. ON THE ROAD AGAIN - Willie Nelson 2. THE RIVERBOAT SONG - JJ Cale 3. CUT ACROSS SHORTY - Eddie Cochran Next would be a ballad because the audience are a bit over-excited by now and need to calm down so maybe BLUE SKIES. I won't complete the list because folk will be copying. In the real world my quartet always starts with BLUE MONK, (an easy opening number to get into the swing of things). IMO anything from '20 jazz funk greats' by Throbbing Gristle would be real crowd pleasers, really funky.

Moving on from the funk-fest that is Throbbing Gristle (Get on down to 'Beachy Head'!) here's some rather more standard pieces from the genre. Yum Yum (Gimme Some) - Fatback Band Fever In the Funkhouse - General Crook Love Rollercoaster - Ohio Players Play these in the set with the three I had in an earlier post and you've got yourself one alternative rocking, groovy gig 🕺💃 Edited February 19, 2021 by upside downer

Oh, and a willing band. Hmmm. I've had a bit of luck in that area. I always wanted to do either DK's HIC or California Uber Alles with my current band, but no luck. But then I joined a side band and they had HIC already in the set.👍 I suggest a lot of songs to my main band which don't get accepted (and some that do). I didn't hold up much hope when I suggested Goo Goo Muck by the Cramps.... but I played it them and they said yes!👍 (Love Bikini Girls and the whole Stay Sick album too) We do Public Image in both bands.... but I'd love to do a track from Metal Box . Someone in the audience shouted out for Death Disco once, so you never know!
