BassApprentice Posted February 21, 2021 Posted February 21, 2021 So I've got this Bronco that I've resurrected, it currently has a cheap rail pickup sitting in it which is fine but I want something more. I love the look of Nick Campbells Musicmaster and the vibe it has. I'm intrigued by the Serek B90 humbucker but let me know what other fun pickup suggestions you have! Quote
ribbetingfrog Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 I’ve got a Toltek 51 P bass pup in mine. gives a woody, deep and thumpy tone with the tone pot rolled off a bit. prefer it to the hot rails I tried before. had to file the scratch plate just a smidge. Quote
Killed_by_Death Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 The B90 is not a humbucker. If you want a humbucker, get a Nordstrand Big Split in a custom shape to fit. Quote
PlungerModerno Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 Why not a short scale "Wife" style deely: It would mean routing for a traditional mudbucker... I was thinking about getting one of these for a P bass: https://lacemusic.com/products/lace-ultra-slim-acoustic-bass as an alternative to routing and to see if I prefer it in the neck vs. the bridge position. 1 Quote

One idea is to use a Jess Loureiro split '51 P ( wired in series) to replace the stock Bronco Pup and add an EBO Humbucker in the neck position. Thus a BroncieWife 😂😂😂😂😂 Quote

Thus a BroncieWife 😂😂😂😂😂 I assume that's this: https://www.jlguitars.com/index.php?id_product=30&id_product_attribute=0&rewrite=p-bass-51-coil-split-tele-bass&controller=product&id_lang=8 I think that could be a great combo with the neck 'bucker. What I'm hoping to do with the Lace pickup allows me to move it about before sticking it down (and move it around for different strings I switch out). Would it be worth suggesting... a BroncGrabbaWife? 1 Quote

BassApprentice Posted February 25, 2021 Author Posted February 25, 2021 So I could go for the Serek - but if there anyone in the UK that would be able to do something similar? I love the way this looks but $175+shipping and taxes makes it quite expensive....Any Suggestions? Quote
PlungerModerno Posted February 26, 2021 Posted February 26, 2021 I imagine even if it must be a custom one off, at that price (or close to it, including more local shipping) somebody would be delighted with the business. I would recommend the creamery if you want something custom. I haven't made an order like the above, but I would imagine he can get pretty much exactly what you ask for. 1 Quote
Matt P Posted February 26, 2021 Posted February 26, 2021 I'd imagine that catswhisker could make you something suitable. https://www.catswhiskerpickups.co.uk/ Matt 1 Quote

BassApprentice Posted May 31, 2022 Author Posted May 31, 2022 Oh wow, totally forgot about this. I think Catwhisker were able to do a Humbucker in a P90 style case, so very similar to the Serek. I never went through with the order so no idea how it would work out! Quote
Baloney Balderdash Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 If it was me I'd get a '51 P Bass single coil pickup, perhaps the Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder if you want something high output, which unlike all the other Quarter Pounder pickups for some reason actually is not muddy at all and also fairly mids heavy. And it should even be a direct drop in, without further routing needed. Then again I do personally really love that 51' P single coil tone. Quote
