MoonBassAlpha Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 Shameless plug, but I've just posted a black Fender Mex bridge in accessories that would look good on that. Quote
Jimothey Posted January 6, 2022 Author Posted January 6, 2022 Surprise surprise this build is changing! I ended up selling the body as I wasn't happy with it! This is now going to be another hybrid a mix of a Rick and '51 P bass (I think I might call it the P-Rick) Its going to be made out of reclaimed materials again possibly oak or mahogany topped or I might try a bit of shou sugi ban finish on some Pine? I can't decide whether to have a pickguard or not here's roughly how it might look? With a pickguard Or without The headstock shape is probably going to change to a more plain shape but I haven't decided yet?........... 👍🏻 3 Quote
Dom in Dorset Posted January 6, 2022 Posted January 6, 2022 I prefer it with the pickguard, it took me a few seconds to work out what it was even though it looks so familiar, a true hybrid. Without the pickguard it's just a Ric with a Tele control plate. (IMO) 1 Quote

Im thinking single coil pickup with the pickguard or split coil without? 43 minutes ago, MoonBassAlpha said: And even that looks better than a Rick! I find their white plastic scratchplate ghastly. The pickguard will probably be made out of wood and stained black or maybe kept natural I'll decide nearer the time?...... 👍🏻 1 Quote
Andyjr1515 Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 Yup - with the pickguard for me And looks a decent shape to my eye... 1 Quote
ezbass Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 Definitely with for me. ‘51 meets 4000, loving it. 1 Quote
Jimothey Posted February 15, 2022 Author Posted February 15, 2022 This build is now going to be a 5er instead with a single soapbar pickup with chrome hardware I'm gluing up the blank now its Pine back with Oak top, the pine is going to be stained a bit darker I've got some tinted Danish oil that is a medium brown so hopefully it will look quite nice the pickguard is going to be ply again more than likely stained black....... But who knows...... 👍🏻 1 Quote
Joe Nation Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 You should call it Trigger's Broom! New body, extra string, different headstock... 1 Quote
Jimothey Posted February 16, 2022 Author Posted February 16, 2022 I got the top cut today which I'll use as my template, and cut the pickguard I still need to fine tune it and thin it down but I couldn't resist doing a mock up......... 👍🏻 5 Quote
Jimothey Posted March 2, 2022 Author Posted March 2, 2022 I think this build is coming together nicely..... I decided to darken down the top and back then keep the pickguard natural....... 👍🏻 7 Quote

Jimothey Posted May 5, 2022 Author Posted May 5, 2022 Finally was able to get back on this one here’s a mock up of how it will look…….. With pickguard Without pickguard I think I prefer it without the pickguard, but hopefully this one is going to go up for sale?…..👍🏻 2 Quote
CookPassBabtridge Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 Wow looks great! Another vote sans pickguard. 1 Quote
Jimothey Posted May 5, 2022 Author Posted May 5, 2022 I’m thinking would it look better with a matching headstock??? 1 Quote
Cosmo Valdemar Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 I'm going to be contrary and vote 'yes' for the scratchplate. It accentuates the curves nicely. 1 Quote
benh Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 Without the scratchplate + with matching headstock is my vote, looks great so far! 1 Quote
