New Complexity make guitars with pickups between the bridge and the tail-piece and the ability to "tune" the strings behind the bridge.

This one just has the bridge fitted in the wrong place. It should be sat on the "end" of the tail-piece.

The bridge design on this later evolved into the one used on Guild starfire, but where the later versions used four rosewood saddles, this should be a single long saddle held in place by the strings

IIRC from the one I used to own, the two screws immediately behind the bridge in the photo above were used to adjust the string height.

that is correct — and on my modern starfire there’s a metal plate fixed to the body for these height adjustment screws to rest on

Similar to the Danelectro bridges by the looks of it. Rear screw holds it in place while the front screws adjust the height.
