adamg67 Posted March 18, 2021 Posted March 18, 2021 (edited) Just found this: https://www.andertons.co.uk/guitar-amp-attenuators-loadboxes/jhs-pedals-little-black-amp-box-attenuator It’s basically just an extra volume control that goes in the effects loop. An EQ pedal on flat might do the same job. If you’ve got an effects loop after the preamp and it’s the preamp sound you want, that idea would work. Edit: Just realised that is what @fretmeister meant as well. Edited March 18, 2021 by adamg67 Quote

I made one of those for my g**tar amp to stick in the fx loop, it was ear-splittingly loud trying to use the drive channel without it. 1 Quote

Most of the time you are going to want series, and occasionally if you are running a load of studio quality rack effects parallel can be useful, so a series/parallel switch can be useful. But parallel only? Who does that. You should name and shame. As has been said, unless your amp has a valve power amp section, simply turning down the output should be fine. Of course as has also been said sometimes speaker breakup is part of the sound and sometimes it's just the fact that it's loud that makes it sound "right". Unfortunately there's no quiet solution for these. 2 Quote

adamg67 Posted March 19, 2021 Posted March 19, 2021 After a couple of glasses of cheap wine on a Friday night, the answer is obvious. Just put the cab in a big padded box. Quote

I like your idea. I could put the cab next to my old neighbours house. Revenge for his ultra loud tv and open windows every evening Quote
