The last time a recent song's bass part caught your attention

A couple of days ago this came by on the radio - it's by a local (Belgian) artist so I guess none of you would have heard it. (I don't know the guy personally so this isn't a covert plug or anything).

The bass part on it immediately caught my attention and made me want to learn and play along - something I haven't really experienced a lot with recent/modern music. I haven't been playing bass for that long so it might be I'm easily impressed of course.

Anyway I thought I'd ask around: what other recent songs (say, from the last two years or so) have impressed you or captured your interest in some way or another? I've seen some Dua Lupa bass lines being mentioned in other threads iirc, but I'm curious what other songs you come up with.

They're perhaps a bit polite, but Khruangbin have some simple, tasteful basslines with lovely feel - great for a playalong.

I was watching a comedy show on Dave last night - 10pm ish - hosted by Jason Manford. The bass part in the intro was excellent.

I’ve no idea what song/band was playing on Radio 2 this morning (about 6:40) but it had a bassline that actually sounded like a bass guitar of all things. Nothing fancy just a decent in the mix sound but given current music it stood out a bit.

One of these? The show (Zoe Ball) started at 6.30

Last ‘recent’ song I heard where the bassline hooked me was ‘Don’t Start Now’ by Dua Lipa.

Just checked it out - yes I see what you mean... simple line, but nice tone etc.

This caugh my attention on the radio today.

Not least because it's one of those lines that I'm 90% sure is either a synth or programmed but every now and then there's some articulation (is that the right word?) that makes me think it might be a genuine bass guitar with a synth effect.

That’s a great tune with great bass. I was really taken aback when I found out it was programmed and not an actual bass, it sounded so much like a ‘live’ performance.

Smooth radio just played George Michael's Faith, again! I always listen to that bass line. It's very good.

Not too recent then! 

I found them through a tutorial by Beholden To The Riff on YouTube. He usually specialises in doom metal but did a tutorial on this song.

Sounds like a short scale with flats on maybe - a really woody hollow thunk. Its great.

EDIT - the video shows something else tho, so ignore me....
