NasalFloss
My Sire M5 arrived today. It’s a great bass, lightweight and gets all of the sounds I could possibly want out of it (how lucky am I?!). There’s surprisingly little information however on the actual controls online. In the picture there’s 3 toggle switches. The bottom one is a 2 way that switches between passive and actively and the other 2 are 3 ways which alter the sounds of the pickups. The actual humbuckers can switch between series, parallel and single coil I think. Problem is that I don’t know which position of the switches correspond to the pickup options. I know about the other knobs, I have a V7 (which I might sell now) that has the same preamp setup. Any ideas? Thanks in advance 🙂
Cato
There's a diagram for the M7 controls here. Presumably they're the same on the M5. Edited March 12, 2021 by Cato
NasalFloss
That’s great, but it doesn’t tell me what the 3 positions per switch do to the corresponding pickup?
Cato
Are they definitely 3 position? I'd expect the active/passive switch to be 2 way as it is on my V7, I can't think what a third option would be. The pickup selectors would make sense if they were on/off, again I can't really think what the third option would be. NasalFloss
The active passive is a two way, but the other 2 toggle switches (one per humbucker) are 3 way and each position makes the humbucker sound different
Cato
This is from the Andrtons M5 page Powerful Pickups Sire basses are known for emitting sounds that far outweigh their modest price-points, and the M5 is no exception. Marcus Pure Humbucker Advanced active pickups deliver a thick and powerful sound, projecting plenty of low-end, a meaty mid-range and articulate highs. Want to go for more of a traditional, passive pickup sound? No problem, just use the toggle switch to flick between active and passive modes, and use the two additional switches to engage/disengage the front and rear pickups. Cato
Forget the above. This video covers what the switches do and shows the positions for each setting.

Up = parallel Middle = single coil Down = series Series is pretty much a louder parallel with more bottom end. It really is, just a shame that it’s in lacking colour options. It’s growing on me though!
