Here's the second of my JB600R basses up for grabs. The serial number (which ends in 007šŸ‘ŒšŸ») indicates that it was made in Japan between 1986 - 1989. As previously stated these are easily as good as the basses Fender Japan were making at the time. This one has seen some action in its 30+ years, but plays like a dream and sounds great. It weighs 3.9kg/8.6lb. It doesn't have a case but I can package it securely if postage is required.

I bought Jays white one a few weeks backĀ and its a superb bass,Ā most defiantly up there with the Fenders. Superb quality all-roundĀ especially the neck,Ā fingerboard and frets. The vintage style tuners look so good on it! Somebody will be getting a great bass here for not a lot of dosh.Ā

Do they have that very clean clear Yamaha sound or are they basically a Jazz - close your eyes and it could be fender sort of sound...?

Hope you don't mind the questions...

Hi Jay,

How do these compare to the Moon basses of the 80s would you say...?

It's very similar to Moons passive J basses. I'd say the Moon edges it slightly but they are generally more than twice this price.Ā

They are pretty much a 60's Jazz copy, so firmly in Fender town tone-wise.Ā

Great thanks for the answers...if they are close to the Moons then they must be great - the one you sold me is incredible.

All the Moons I've had have been great, awesome machines.Ā

If funds were to allow I'd buy this one as well, they really are so good. I'd have one strung with flats, one with roundsĀ šŸ˜Ž

I've had more than my fair share of jazz basses and these are right up there with my favourites. They have so much character in terms of feel and tone. They work especially well with flatwound strings, which this one is currently wearing. Tone perfection.Ā

Is that 70s pickup spacing, or do myĀ eyes deceive me?Ā

Hmm, I'm not sure now you mention it. I added a pickguard to see if it became clear, I'm leaning towards 70's? Any thoughts?Ā

I donā€™t claim any kind of expertise, but looks it to me, now you put the pickguard there.Ā

According to the internet 70s is 100mm and 60s 91mm apartĀ

I've had a measure up and it's 100mm between the pole pieces of each pickup, so 70's spacing. I'm quite surprised by that as I've had a few 70s reissue Fender Jazz basses and I never normally like the bridge pickup solo sound due to it being a bit thin and clanky. This on the other hand has a thick and meaty tone, more reminiscent of a 60s Jazz.. Strange.
