You’ll have fun getting use to fretting the E string though when you have an Eb or D selected! It does make a 4-string much more versatile in certain situations and can save you having to lug a 5-string out for a few low D’s or Eb’s. Bass looks great by the way. I have one on my JMJ and you're right, it make s big difference and its loads of fun! Took a while to get used to the altered shapes though!
Lw.
@bassist_lewis inspired by your Mustang fettling I've had a go at darkening the fretboard on mine - quite pleased with the results; kept the grain of Pau Ferro (which I like) but darkened up it's grey-brown colouring. Couple of before & after's below, now what else can I mess around with... Edited April 16, 2021 by Lw.
bassist_lewis
I got bored today and found a spare thumb rest and screws in my music bits box, then I remembered I had a drill, so I drilled two holes and give the bass a thumb rest. Voila!

bassist_lewis
I ordered a Nordstrand NM4-V on Monday and it turned up today (thanks Bass Direct). Luckily a friend owns a studio down the road so I went down to use his soldering iron. It was a bit fiddly, the only issue was the screw holes in the actual pickups needed widening to fit the stock screws for adjusting the height. I didn't bother uploading a picture of it finished as it looks the same, however the Nordstrands have a hotter output, slightly more low end and high end (though that might just be the increase in volume). Overall I'm happy with them, and looking forward to trying them out in anger over the next few weeks.
