Chopthebass
As promised I started building the second single cut 5. You may have seen the red fretless single cut that is awaiting lacquer. This is walnut front and back, with alder and veneers. Fingerboard will be Birdseye and I’m going to try using the Shaper to do custom symbols and blind frets. Two Delano SBC 6’s with 4 band eq.
HazBeen
Very nice, the Origin helps speed things along. Almost CNC speed.
Owen
This has been worrying me quite a bit but I have realised that you cut the control cavity cover BEFORE gluing the back on!

Chopthebass
I wanted to try the Shaper for some fingerboard symbols. I decided to try an infinity. Tricky to draw in CAD as they get longer and narrow as you go up the neck. The plan is black resin
Geek99
What about a bass clef? Two at the twelfth perhaps ? Edited April 2, 2021 by Geek99
Chopthebass
I did think about a bass clef, but I just wanted them to all be the same. Maybe next bass could have all clefs!
SpondonBassed
In theory, I suppose you could have the name of each note for all fret positions. Not that it would be particularly helpful. Probably counter productive now I think about it. Just because you can do something doesn't necessarily mean you should. I like the lemniscate though. I tried inlaying with powdered metals in resin once but it wasn't great because I hand carved the relief. You should have better results. Owen
You could inlay "Yes, you are too loud" in there. You know that it would ALWAYS be useful, no matter what band you were playing with. 1
Hellzero
And engrave upside down "Applause" at the back of the body or "Scream" alongside the back of the neck, or the opposite, or both, to show to the audience when needed, à la Paul Gilbert. 🤣
Chopthebass
Well the symbol idea didn’t work! Whilst the routing was perfect, when I put black resin in them it bled. I must have sanded 1mm off and it’s still there! Oh well, I’ll flip it over and use on another bass.

I generally use clear epoxy and mix in ebony dust that I collect when I'm sanding fretboards, etc. As it isn't a dye, it can't bleed and, as long as you put a decent amount in the mix, it's pretty much jet black.
Matt P
Could you spray a light coat of sealer on the routing before you pour the resin (allowing it to dry obviously?) might stop the bleeding. Matt

Geek99
Thanks @TheGreek Treble clef markers == no-go zone. Small joke for any bass players looking at it 1
