Damon Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 Hi everone I'm taking delivery of a dingwall NG2 4 String next week. I really like light strings on my bass ideally 35-95 or there about. Has anyone any experience of lighter strings on this type of bass I.e. long scale with fanned frets. If so, what variety have you gone for. I spotted the HI-Beams and Elite Stadium strings day are quite long but I'm not sure if long enough. I may just end up going for the dingwall strings but they are heavier gauge than I'd ideally like. Any advice much appreciated. Damon Quote
JohnR Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 Newtone strings. Newtone Strings – British Handmade Guitar Strings I use light strings too and it was becoming harder and harder to get stock of my preferred DR Hi-Beams. Newtone have a custom set option where you can specify every detail including length. The SS option with round core sound and feel very similar to Hi-Beams. 1 Quote
TheGreek Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 I prefer 35s but as @JohnR says it is harder to get the ones I want. Not a fan of Rotosounds. You can still get 35-95s from Status for around £15, and you can get the same gauge from Alice (Chinese) on eBay. Inexpensive rather than cheap - they do last, keeping their tone and feel. 1 Quote
Muzz Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 As a Dingwall 4-string owner (and previous Newtone user), I'd say Newtone would be a good go-to, just to make sure you get the winding length for the longer E. I've got Elixirs on mine, the length is fine, but I dunno if you'd get the gauge as light as you want... Quote
