ped Posted April 1, 2021 Share Posted April 1, 2021 I’m looking for a portable recording mixer with the following things: - four plus headphone outputs built in - compression and reverb assignable to channels I looked at a few things but the Zoom L-12 fits the bill perfectly. The smaller L8 would work but it doesn’t have the effects and isn’t much cheaper. Just wondered if there’s anything else I’m missing. Brilliant for live recording and mixing...I’ve recorded a five piece band, the whole gig using the L12 for FOH mix as well. No problems working with recording the whole gig. Easy transfer to a computer, although you have to go via a memory card. ped Posted April 15, 2021 Author Share Posted April 15, 2021 Cheers yes it looks just the ticket for me especially having several headphone outputs. I like that the L12 has a compressor but thinking about it I reckon the L8 might be enough for me and I can use a comp pedal instead. And it takes batteries which is quite handy. Reminds me of the olden days when me and my friends used to have a Zoom MRS4 which we’d share between us (sometimes by post) to put down our individual track then post onwards to the next person. 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

One big question would be the quality and volume of the headphone output, for those who've used one. Can they go loud and remain clean? The l12 is winning over other digital mixers currently purely on the basis that theres no need for a seperate headphone amp, but obviously, if the internal headphone amps are a bit stinky poo then it kinda defeats the purpose! I haven’t had any problems with mine. Max we’ve had are 3 pairs of cans connected and it’s great being able to assign a mix and level to each. Funnily enough I used mine yesterday for the first time in a while and remembered how good it is. The built in recorder is fantastic too. Really glad I bought it. I could go the full digi interface but I'd utilise 10% of the capability 90% of the time, this just seems to be the logical extension from a trad analogue mixer... as used by old folk!
