Ima huge Stingray 5 fan and when this one popped up locally for half of what others are selling them for, I pounced.  I am very rarely the early bird, but I got me a worm this time lads.

I too love the tone but hate the scratchplate...

.... or I did.... I've never seen this combination before, but it works. Coupled with the maple it's got a real old school vibe.

Enjoy!

As stated in a previous thread, I thought about buying some leather to create a scratchplate. Turned out it got pricey when you take into consideration the tools needed.

Still think it's a good idea though.

Yours would look amazing with a tan leather plate which matched the fretboard.

Incidentally, I still haven't forgotten how you UNIT chaps treated us in the sewers.

Good lord I had almost forgotten about that.  Sewers are no place for mechanical men or Yetis for that matter.  LOL.  😉

Or "Giant" rats 🤣

I liked my '90 SR5 fretless. It was black (Poplar) bodied with a B/W/B scratchplate and black knobs and a black pickup cover.

The scratchplate really didn't show much against that colour combo, and the white ply went nicely with the way the light caught the ridges of the body contours...

That’s a good point. As another long term hater of the Stingray 5 pickguard (one of the reasons why I have a Sterling instead), it didn’t occur to me to get one the same colour as the bass to somewhat reduce its impact. It’s a shame really as some of the special edition Stingrays that lose the pickguard look so much better. I do however love the pickguard on the SR4.
