As stated in a previous thread, I thought about buying some leather to create a scratchplate. Turned out it got pricey when you take into consideration the tools needed.

Still think it's a good idea though.

Yours would look amazing with a tan leather plate which matched the fretboard.

I liked my '90 SR5 fretless. It was black (Poplar) bodied with a B/W/B scratchplate and black knobs and a black pickup cover. 

The scratchplate really didn't show much against that colour combo, and the white ply went nicely with the way the light caught the ridges of the body contours...

That’s a good point. As another long term hater of the Stingray 5 pickguard (one of the reasons why I have a Sterling instead), it didn’t occur to me to get one the same colour as the bass to somewhat reduce its impact. It’s a shame really as some of the special edition Stingrays that lose the pickguard look so much better. I do however love the pickguard on the SR4.
