Sugestions for a 35" B E A D 4 string ~

I'm thinking of a 35" scale 4 string, to use B E A D.

I'd be buying second hand, on here, obviously...

So, any thoughts on what to keep an eye out for..?

Without googling, I’m not actually aware of any off-the-shelf 35” 4 strings.
Might be easier to simply buy the bass you want at 34” and have Newtone or someone wind you a higher tension BEAD string set.

The Yamaha TRB1004J is 35" scale. 40mm nut, two humcancelled single coil pickups, 3 band EQ

I've owned Sadowsky and Wal 5 string basses, each with a superb 34" low B.

So 35" isn't always a prerequisite for a good B string.

Agreed. I've a Warwick with a good Low B, plus the Vigier and 2 Ibanez. All are 34" scale.

String Choice (type/gauge/manufacturer) also plays a part.

Ibanez BTB.. iirc the 2xx and 3xx 4 stringers are 34" but up from there are 35".

Chapman made this 4-string multiscale model, which you might be able to  find second-hand. I believe it's 32.75” to 35".

Don't expect that extra 1" to make any significant difference on its own. The factors for getting a good sounding and playing low B are:
eck construction, neck joint and choosing the right low B-string (make, construction and gauge) for your bass.

At least .130 gauge for the B and a correctly cut nut will do wonders.

You could buy one of those fan fret 4 strings and then just buy an extra B string.

I also believe that getting the best B string that is possible is not about the scale, but more about the setup.
