I’ve had this in the shed for a while. I’m aware of the Sunno brand as I had one of their bass amps in the late 80’s. I also know of the Legends that are sunno the Band. However I know nothing about this. I’m guessing the pups have been swapped at some stage.

I don't know anything about them other than I remember seeing them in the Argos catalogue in the early 90s I'm pretty sure they were priced at between £80-100.

They were marketed by Fender below the Squiers - sub £100 if I remember rightly. I think they were made in India, possibly from the same factory as the similar era Encores. They didn't play too badly but the ones I tried were very heavy.

Those look like Bill Lawrence pickups. Perhaps someone has replaced them at some point. Very good pickups. Don't get rid of them before trying them. I doubt Toneriders will be an improvement if they are BLs.

I haven't seen a Sunn for ages, they were as already mentioned above, the Fender owned sub Squier models form the '80s. Yes, they were heavy and normally made in India.

These were all over the place when I was a teenager.

I've had a bunch of Indian-made Sunn Mustang Strats, never had a bass but I imagine the quality's similar. The guitars were actually very good, some cheap hardware (poor tuners & bridge blocks made of crumbly zinc alloy) being the real letdowns. Otherwise nice solid timber (not ply) bodies & quality fretwork. Later ones had a changed headstock shape & different logos and apparently aren't as good - not sure but I don't think those are Indian-made.

Did a bit of reading about them & it seems the Sunn brand was UK/EU only, in other territories they were sold as 'Squier II' and command higher s/h prices than the Sunns. Late 80s/early 90s Indian-made Encores appear to be the same instruments & are quite well regarded.

Pickups on this one could be DiMarzio DP127s. If so they'll have red/black/green/white wires.

@KingPrawn, are you really keeping it in the shed, or is that just a turn of phrase?

sadly it was. It’s a very dry shed though. To my shame I had forgotten I had it.

This is it, spot on.  India and heavy.  I'd add that it's a perfectly decent bass for anyone looking for a project.  From memory, the neck was very chunky.

I bought one for £20 one time.  Sanded the body back, resprayed with matching headstock (which I sanded off again), put a better bridge on it and installed a Warman pickup.  Bashed it about a bit.  Perfectly acceptable back up bass or for playing those places where you wouldn't lose too much sleep if it got nicked.  Sold here yonks ago.

I recall reading an article, maybe in guitarist, where they swapped out the stock pick ups  and put blade types as an upgrade, and I think they used bill Laurence,
