Bogdon Cardboard Box Bass!

Looking around Youtube tonight, I saw some clips of a cardboard box double bass, which actually sounded half decent!

Tracked them down to a website: -

There are a few videos of the basses in action, and a nice fretless version of Norweigian Wood too (under 'Bogdon the Artist').

Quite tempted to order one, just to have a play around with....

I'd be tempted to make one myself having seen what he's done... 'cept, I'd probably use marine ply to make the box with and design it so the neck, strings, tailpiece and bridge can come off and be stowed in the box for transit...

Cool idea, but it seems kind of expensive for something that looks like it can easily be made for next to nothing.

I'm on their mailing list, aparrently, probably due to complaining that the cardboard bass advertised for £30 on the Cardiff Gumtree site actually turned out to be £30 plus about £30 postage as it was an advert from cardboard bass central in the states somewhere ..


Anyway they just sent me this link to a bassplayer.TV film of making one.

Bit Babooshka....ish this!...do they send it to you in a Cardboard Box?.Good for busking in Sunny Mancunia?.I think the only bass ive seen recently and thought i could make one of those myself?...... and it just might work(and be usable!),has gotta be!......Les Claypools one string Whamola bass!.

there are more box basses shipped to Europe than in the US,
and a dozen or more in Belgium (go figure). I have a shipper that ships world wide, from my small garage in Detroit to everywhere on the planet. The internet is a wonderful thing.

Tell you what, I could [b]easily[/b] make 300 dollars worth of recommendations to make your website work better/sell more boxes/get you more gigs if you fancy an exchange

I know Si and trust his judgement. I'd order one on the strength of him saying it's a decent bass.
