How they get the necks to play and feel like that is beyond my limited scope of understanding 🤔 She's not light though at over 11Ibs but balances excellently on a strap. The best B string I've ever owned on an all passive bass. I've had good experience with 55-94 and 55-02 but sold it due to circumstance. Now I'm looking to try a DJ5 and just want a passive 5 string bass. Contemplating between this or a BB435 Quote

It might come down to whether you have a P or a J preference and/or are bothered by the longer scale Lakland. Big Yamaha fan here also. As you already know the Lakland will have a fraction more in the bridge string spacing. Edited Thursday at 11:15 by Terry M. Quote
Sibob Posted Thursday at 11:46 Author Posted Thursday at 11:46 Yamaha make fine basses, but out of the two, I’d rather have a DJ5. Now if you were considering a Yamaha BBP35, harder choice! Si 1 Quote

Lakland is also hard to take out the equation if low action is your thing and prefer the J sound over a P. Personally I would stick with the DJ5. Edited Thursday at 11:56 by Terry M. Quote

Oh I didn’t say the Yammy would automatically win, just that it would be a harder choice. I had a DJ 5 for a while, it was awesome, only really lost out to my 55-01 because that is just ‘MY’ 5 string…know what I mean. But the DJ4 I had was the best Jazz bass I’ve ever owned….wish I still had it. Only sold it to help fund my US 44-PJ. Si 1 Quote
Chadu25 Posted Thursday at 14:44 Posted Thursday at 14:44 Thanks for the insight mates! Looking to score a nice DJ5 in few months time. Hopefully find a good light weight one. 4-4.2kgs is my sweetspot. Otherwise I'll go back to the 55-02. This one weighs at 4.05! https://thebassgallery.com/collections/all/products/lakland-2 Quote

Si Absolutely mate and I wasn't trying to misquote you 👍 I once had a from new American Standard Jazz Bass V and really liked it. However I find the DJ5 better in every aspect apart from maybe the weight of my particular example will bother some. 1 Quote

krispn Posted Thursday at 19:08 Posted Thursday at 19:08 I sold a black sparkle DJ4 which had the original aero pick ups on here years ago and would love to get it back. Goodness knows where it ended up. I did try and make some enquiries a while back but dead ends. Quote

I don't know how I forgot to mention my recently acquired DJ5 has the Aeros fitted. I was contemplating the possibility of adding an East preamp until I plugged it in. No way am I messing with this factory formula. The Aeros are serious pickups!!! Quote
krispn Posted Thursday at 21:45 Posted Thursday at 21:45 Yup they’re a serious pick up they don’t need an preamp. 1 Quote
Terry M. Posted Thursday at 21:53 Posted Thursday at 21:53 Thinking of adding a series/parallel switch however 🤔 Quote

Si It really is an excellent feature for Jazzes. Is your switch a mini toggle or? The Fender S-1 switch I particularly liked due to the unobtrusive nature of it. Quote
Terry M. Posted yesterday at 07:04 Posted yesterday at 07:04 Also loving the 3+2 headstock design keeping it looking real neat. Quote

I did look into buying a Fender S1 pot and switch, but by the time I’d get it to Lakland, it would have been like £50 all in. I’ll stick with a toggle switch haha. Si Quote

That's actually an excellent point. Really is good to talk 😂🤔 So you're saying the Fender S-1 is technically possible on a Lakland? That would be my preferred choice. Quote

Although now I’m looking again (it was quite a while ago I checked), I can’t see any of the S1 Jazz Knobs available, so the pots are kinda useless without those. I should have grabbed the couple I saw on eBay last year. Si 1 Quote
