Lord Sausage
After over 10 months of vigorously doing nothing on this build, I've finally started. First shaping the headstock, it has also had a new nut. Look at the precision of this cut. Time to get out the sanding block
Lord Sausage
Had a quick blast with 60 grit. That's enough for today. Don't wanna be too productive.
Lord Sausage
Starting to get on with this. First up, a mistake I made. I bought all the stuff roughly at the same time, Including the Wudtone finish. Today I realised it only has a 3 month shelf life. So it's gone off. Total waste of money.😆 Anyway, the plan is to have the neck done by the middle of April. So I'm looking for a bit of advice. Should I buy some Schaller tuning pegs for it or stick with the Chinese ones that came with it? They seem quite sturdy and have been told that the difference will be minimal. I don't want to have to change down the line and have excess holes in the back of the headstock. Often this is where costs have been cut. Having a screw head shear off is not an insurmountable problem but it is an annoying one. Also, use a good fitting driver and candle wax when it comes to assembly. I used the supplied tuning pegs on my IB5 kit and found them to be okay.

And, kinky as I am, what's the candle wax for?

I replaced all of the screws in my kit. If you wanted to cut that down, perhaps just the neck to body screws and the bridge to body screws because they take the most torque. Use the candle wax to lubricate the screw threads. Just rub a bit off on the threads and then screw them home. It helps reduce the friction and does not harm the wood.

Think that has its own Screws.

Lord Sausage
The neck doesn't fit in the pocket. It did at first, just, now it doesn't. So I've made a little sanding block out of a mini jenga block and sand paper. I'm gonna lightly sand one side of the pocket til the neck fits. Lord Sausage
The world's slowest build continues. Neck attached and headstock drilled for tuners.
Lord Sausage
Didn't realise another bass was on the couch 😆. Next job is to sand neck with 240 grit to get ready for the wudtone finish. Burn my name into the headstock, the finish with the aforementioned wudtone oil.

Look!😄 Plus I've had it about 30 years and it just lies around the front room. It's taken for granted the poor thing.
Lord Sausage
Name burnt into the headstock. Gonna use the wudtone neck finish over the next few days. Once that is done its will just be a case of sanding and staining the body. Then attaching all the bits to it. Hopefully I'll have it done by the end of the month.

Lord Sausage
I've just applied the first coat of the wudtone colourless base coat. It seem to take better in some places than others. Having never done an oil finish before I'm not sure if this normal. I'm assuming I haven't sanded it as well in some places. It seems to have taken everywhere though and it's all on the back so not too bothered. I'll see how it dries. Still got two more base coats and then three top coats to do. Lord Sausage
The neck is now finished. I'm not over the moon with it. I think I didn't sand it enough before staining so the finish seems a bit thin and uneven. I can live with it though.
Lord Sausage
I've also sanded the body down today ready for staining. Spent about 2 hrs doing it but I'm not 100% I've done the sides enough. I will probably give them a quick going over again.

CookPassBabtridge
I'm really interested to see how the Azure Lagoon looks once all the coats are done - I have also been caught out by the 3 month shelf life and foolishly tried using it on a dark wood - did not go well! Yours looks great already though.
