KingPrawn
What if there was no bass? Would we be noticed more in our absence than we are in our presence and feel?
TheGreek
I contend that people may not know what/ when the bass is playing but sure notice when it isn't there...

Doddy
Bass in general or bass guitar specifically? Because there is a lot of music without bass guitar, but there is still something happening in the bass register.

Downunderwonder
Dude gets off his flight at some African holiday beach resort. He hears drums, lots of drums, pulsing gently in the distance, and he knows he is in Africa. He gets to his hotel to check in and again, drums, cool bananas. By the pool with a cocktail, you guessed it, drums and more drums. Dinner is accompanied by drums. Back at the bar, no letup. Come bedtime and our tourist can't get to sleep for the incessant beats from the jungle. He goes down stairs to complain to the concierge and see if they can quit it for the night. ''Sir, drums are good! Very good Sir! When drums stop very bad. Never want drums to stop!" ''Why the heck not, I can't sleep!" ''Sir when drums stop, then we get the bass solo''. Bobthedog
Based on a lot of threads I do not think it would make a difference to this forum, other than perhaps a name change. 😀
chris_b
If there were no bass guitars, there would be another instrument playing bass lines. As has been said, people might not hear our instrument, but they always know the music isn't sounding good if we drop out.

ezbass
A lot of cars with those stupidly loud, sub woofers would sound like wasps in a tin can.
ezbass
An interesting thought would be, what if there were no electric guitar and by extension, no electric bass guitar?

Following that thought, would the musical genres that, at least on the face of it, were born out of and thrived because of the electric guitar and bass, still have come to pass? Certainly the size of bands would be different.
