Where Is the best/safest place to sell gear nowadays?

I'm about to put a lot of gear up for sale and I'm interested to know what you consider to be the best, and safest places other than our very  own BassChat Marketplace.

I've used eBay in the past, but I'm now wary of the amount of scams associated with it, and of course, the high fees they charge.

I definitely don't trust Gumtree, but I've heard that Reverb is pretty good, has anyone used it, and how does it work?

I can't even tell you how many plonkers on Gumtree don't understand 'Cash on collection - pickup only - no shipping'.

Yeah, I could swear that someone was deliberately trying to wind me up a while ago with that

'Can you meet at Waterloo?'

....'No, collection only'

'But I would be collecting it from you. At Waterloo'

....'No, just you collection from my house'.

Okay, how shall I transfer the cash?'

.....'cash on collection'

'yeah, but shall I transfer cash by Paypal or Bank?'

Personally, I've found Basschat to be the best for avoiding plonkers!

I'd recommend avoiding eBay, I'd go with here, Facebook Marketplace (but listed cash on collection only) and for the stuff that's more 'specialist' talk to Mark at Bassdirect for a consignment sale?

I was wondering about a consignment sale, any idea what sort of commission shops/dealers charge?

Is it just me or is now a bad time to sell? Certainly towards the lower end of the market <£500 prices seem to be very low. £150 for a neck thru Peavey Zephyr and £120 for a modern Ibanez SR300 seems ridiculous

You are probably right but I am having a new window installed in my "music" room that needs a bit more light, and I have three basses hanging on the wall where the new window will be.

Like many of us, I have far more gear than I actually need or use so I have decided to move stuff on and keep everything to a minimum.

Sounds drastic I know, but in reality, I know that I only need two basses, main bass and backup bass, and I have five at the moment.

I’m not under any pressure from the boss, and she expressed genuine sadness when I said I'm going to sell a few.

Why not just swap the 3 basses with Perspex bodied ones...?
