I love that. I think it's brilliant. It's Spinal Tap in the real world. How a band who were so, so good could become so utterly inept, it's fascinating.

Meh. There's always going to be a place in my heart for Papa Het (who let's face it is going to end checking out on us in a rehab facility at some point in the next two decades). But I cannot stand anything that comes out of the Danish midgets mouth, especially after he did a no-show at Download 2004 which I am still marginally annoyed about...

Inspired by a couple of existing threads.

What (forgotten) albums will future generations re-discover? I'll go...

Infected - The The
Introducing the Hardline according to Terence Trent-D'arby
Stop Making sense - Talking Heads
Handsworth Revolution - Steel Pulse

My concern is that future generations probably won't know what an album is in the first place

Extreme II Pornograffitti is a great album which is overlooked because of the success of  'More than Words'.  There are some good rock tunes on there and some really great guitar playing.  I think you get this all the time where one of the singles off an album is a massive hit.

I've always said this about Use Your Illusion 1 and 2 as well 👍

HOW can Justice and Puppets be considered over rated in any scenario? Seriously??

Yes, seriously, in the scenario that's my taste in music. On the subject of Guns n Roses, Appetite is one seriously overrated album too, basically Aerosmith on better drugs

Time has shown Lars to be the sound one of the group. Amazing 😂

Kreator - Renewal

Mindfunk - Dropped

Living Colour - Stain

Motley Crue - s/t

Prong - Prove You Wrong

News is that Tony plans to remaster some old Sabbath, but he's choosing Tony Martin tracks, I really wish they'd do that with B.A.!

I disagree. If "you could be mine" was on Appetite then all other music could cease, perfection itself would have been reached.

Two of the greatest thrash masterpieces of the 80's? Okay ...

Who is buying all the vinyl they are selling these days?

My nomination for future appreciated currently sunk with hardly a trace and barely appreciated in the first place album is The Travelling Wilburys. One hit 'single' got airplay for awhile, 'Handle Me With Care', then zippity nada except the occasional play on Classic Hits of late.

I'd been saving up Master of Puppets, apparently the undisputed greatest metal album of all time, for decades. In February of this year, I thought the moment for this massive treat to myself had come. I got myself nicely excited by reacquainting myself with Kill 'Em All, and getting to know Ride The Lightning, and then..... meh. I mean, it's okay, I suppose. I listened to it 7 times in a row* and haven't touched it since.

So to get back to the thread's topic, albeit a little facetiously: Ride The Lightning, a properly exciting album**

* yes, I was counting, there was a lockdown and I was desperate for things to do. No regrets ;)

** ...which I've listened to 25 times*** since mid-February

*** yes, I am still counting despite the end of the lockdown. Bite me :D

Ride the Lightning also a great album. No argument from me.

Revisiting these albums and feeling a little anti-climatic with it .. I don't know. I think words like groundbreaking are a bit of a cliche but when those albums were first released, at the time, yes, the whole thing was blowing peoples minds, it was such a new sound coming through. I don't even think I have done it justice summing it up in that sentence, to be honest.

Personally, I wouldn't say MoP is the undisputed metal album of all time, but all of those early Metallica albums have rightly deserved their top spots in metal history.

In your opinion yes. It's not mandatory to have to think certain bands/albums are the greatest, the epitome. There are several BCers who don't like The Beatles and that's fine. Their choice, their taste.

I think these are some gems which have maybe already been forgotten:

Groove Armada - Goodbye Country (Hello Nightclub)
Tears For Fears - The Hurting
The Silencers - A Blues for Buddha
Marillion - Misplaced Childhood
Simple Minds - New Gold Dream

Is Jane's Addiction's comeback album Strays any good, or is it just that it really does it for me?

Kinda not trusting my opinion on this one. I get the impression that JA fans don't care for it too much. But I love it.

It's been a while since I listened to it but I liked it when it came out. Not up to Nothing's Shocking or Ritual but a solid album, I'd say.

I don't think any of these great albums are forgotten at all.

I hope you're right.  My wife only discovered Goodbye Country a few weeks ago (even though I've let her hear a few tracks from it) & she just decided yesterday that she needs to listen to some Tears for Fears albums. as she loves the songs I've let her hear.
