Cost effective options for protecting rig

I've acquired my first hefty rig, taking advantage of the heavy discount Anderton's are offering on TC gear... So, I now have a TC RH750 and a K-410 cab... If I move these around, especially the cab, it's going to get bashed without some protection... This is not something I've previously looked into. I suspect that the head can go into some sort of padded bag - flight cases seem to have heft price tags. It gets very pricey for the cab. Anyone any suggestions for either flight case options or alternatives that provide a mix of protection with mobility? Probably asking for the impossible, but thought I'd ask.

Some great ideas in the post above!  The Peli type cases are excellent for smaller/medium-sized items such as amps.  If you can mount the head in some kind of rack case, I'd recommend it and if not, be careful to ensure that it can't be pulled/knocked off the cab at rehearsals/gigs.  I've seen this happen quite a bit and more so with contemporary very lightweight heads.  For the cab, a lot depends on transport/lifting capacity.  I'd always use a flight case if possible/feasible (and you can often pick them up cheaply on Basschat, though additional foam/padding may be required).  They're highly protective, of course, and can provide a useful riser depending on stage size.  That said, they're heavy for load ins/load outs) and need storing when not in use.  A roqsolid should do a good job in terms of day-to-day protection and they're reasonably priced.  Oh, and a lovely new rig that you have there - very handsome

Def Roqsolid for the cab, as well as protection from the weather you can have a section in it which you can insert a piece of board to protect the speaker grill. 

For the head, well I have a Wenger pilots case for my Ashdown RM500. It has plenty of separate sections for leads etc, and is very sturdy.

For touring I also have a Boschma case which I lined with foam, very hard wearing and as @three says, cases like these are very useful for putting a cab on to elevate and reduce storage space on smaller stages.

I bought an aluminium foam filled case for my RH750. Cut the shape out of the foam and you have a well protected amp. My cabs have Roqsolid covers.

I use an old laptop bag for my amp. Does the job well enough. The cabs I just treat like new trainers. It's only the first scuff that hurts. After that it's just character.

The regular Roqsolid covers I had were ok for keeping dust and light rain off, wouldn't want to rely of them for protection against knocks and bumps though. Thought they were quite expensive for what they were and looking at the website the price ramps up if you want basic padding. Have a look at Hotcovers or a smaller independent supplier, I got a custom cab cover made locally for ~£25 for a 1x10 cab and it is head and shoulders above my old Roqsolid ones. was a company called Bacsew. 

 

A laptop bag or mixer bag will do for the head, just find one with compatible internal dimensions. I like the Gator ones as they're cheap and match my gigbags! Bassdirect lists the RH750 as being suitable for their medium bag:

The only reason I don't have Roqsolid cases for my current speakers is that they came with their own cases. Roqsolid is the way forward for the cab. Head in a backpack maybe? Used to keep mine in the laptop compartment of a Jeep backpack.

Heavily skewed to the portable and economical end of the options is the good old cardboard + duct tape drop cover. Good for keeping out the rain and scuff protection while not adding a lot weight, so less likely for it to take an unaided trip down the stairs.

Another vote for hotcovers... my comparably priced roqsolids are in a pile in the garage!

I have both Roqsolids & Hotcovers. Both are well made. Hotcovers offer more protection against knocks in that they are well padded. The basic Roqsolid is fairly thin in comparision but they do offer an extra padded option for a little more money. 

I've always been fussy about protecting equipment and not skimped on getting something that does the job well.
