tvickey
These are the before pictures... I changed the hardware on this Warwick Corvette 6-string... the original tuners were actually in pretty good shape, but I wanted Schallers on it. Part of the bridge was all bent up and distorted (one of the handful of faults that are known to happen with Warwicks over time), so that needed to be replaced anyway. I also wanted Schaller straplocks on the bass, so... let's do everything in black then!
tvickey
Hey @seb here are the after pictures with black hardware! I also waxed the body and polished it a bit. I put some DR high-beam strings on it now. Did full setup and sounds really good. Looks like Warwick or someone drilled an extra set of holes where the bridge is mounted (odd!). This bass is from 2015, and I don't think the bridge design has changed that recently. Also, it looked like the original bridge to me, so I'm a bit confused by the second set of holes in the body. I have to confess I've not opened up any other Warwicks, so not sure if the two sets of holes serve a purpose or if it was a mistake at the Warwick factory.

Guest
Nice. Black looks much better. My Teambuilt Corvette Ash 6 came with chrome hardware. I did a quick shop on the Warwick site for gold hardware as it would look much nicer - but changed my mind after the total came to about £230 😲
tvickey
I'm pretty pleased with the new Schaller straplocks. I'd never used them before, and in the past always left the Warwick ones on my basses. However this particular bass is so heavy (and the original strap buttons on this bass were not compatible with my other instruments anyway) I decided to go with something a bit more robust. LeftyJ
Looks a lot better with the black! I did the same with my Streamer LX5, I bought it used around 10 years ago with badly worn gold hardware and it just looked bad. I changed it all to black, and love the look now. I got another older LX recently with gold hardware, but on this one it fits the finish colour of the body so I'm keeping it as is. On waxing the body: the recent Pro Series / Teambuilt German Warwicks actually don't have waxed bodies anymore. They're finished with a very thin satin lacquer finish! Same goes for the necks, with the exception of the fingerboard facing. Edited May 17, 2021 by LeftyJ

I was not aware of the finish change on the Warwicks.... Well, this one got a nice coat of wax. Ha! Seemed to make it look better...

So... who needs two cans of Warwick bass wax, one partially used? 🤣🤣 I brought two cans over to the UK with me from France recently thinking I needed them. Indeed, I sent an email with the S/N to Warwick and they replied "no need to wax this one."
Joe Nation
The second set of holes under the bridge might be an attachment point for something during manufacture - a jig for machining or finishing maybe, or a fixture for neck alignment. They wouldn't just use the same holes as the bridge screws in case it got stripped. Just a guess, it's a common practice in all sorts of manufacturing set-ups.
tvickey
There was also just a little bit of rust on some of the frets when I received the bass... a quick rub with some Gorgomyte cleaned the frets right up! I've not played this bass for a while... this revived thread is making me pull it out from its case!

The recent GPS have satin lacquer finishes on the body and the back of the neck and are fairly maintenance-free. They don't wax them anymore. Looks lovely, and the black hardware was a great upgrade! Edit: nevermind, I was repeating myself. Hadn't noticed the thread resurrection and didn't read the other posts 😆 Edited January 22, 2022 by LeftyJ
