Is it usual to have two output jacks, one for each instrument? I thought it was the norm to have some sort of switch to toggle between them? Allows for separate FX chains,  though,  and nothing some sort of line selector pedal wouldn't fix.

Well of course yer classic Rickenbackers, well they always had two output jacks, innit?

I mean, that's yer bleedin' Ric-o-Sound, innit?

I think the time it would take to tune something like that every time you picked it up would annoy me, let alone the hassle of changing the strings.

Classic Chickenbacker. 

You won't need to worry about tuning sixteen strings for very long. The twelve string neck tenon will give out after a couple of months, leaving you with a very heavy four string bass. 

If you're lucky both necks will fold up and then you'll have absolutely guilt tossing it on the fire.
