HazBeen Posted July 20, 2021 Author Posted July 20, 2021 Just soldering, intonation, setup and usual tinkering needed… 4 Quote
spacecowboy Posted July 21, 2021 Posted July 21, 2021 That red stain has come out lovely! Great work! 1 Quote
SpondonBassed Posted July 21, 2021 Posted July 21, 2021 (edited) Allen headed neck bolts? Very cool. Edit: Just spotted my mistake, sorry. It's still cool though. Edited July 21, 2021 by SpondonBassed 1 Quote
HazBeen Posted July 21, 2021 Author Posted July 21, 2021 The good news is that I will be doing just the bass again soon 😂 1 Quote
HazBeen Posted July 23, 2021 Author Posted July 23, 2021 Happy client! Initial feedback was that it plays well, sounds really open and certainly hit the brief. Great! 3 Quote
HazBeen Posted August 8, 2021 Author Posted August 8, 2021 As I am back from my holiday, I thought I’d get back into the bass. Control and pickup cavities done, and made the template for the neck (will route that next time). 4 Quote
HazBeen Posted August 10, 2021 Author Posted August 10, 2021 (edited) Neck in Not the tightest I have ever done…… but pretty solid fit and certainly more than fine for my skill level. Edited August 10, 2021 by HazBeen 1 Quote
HazBeen Posted August 10, 2021 Author Posted August 10, 2021 (edited) So the question is……. What to do with the body. Initially I thought about staining it black. Maybe doing a black burst and then finishing with lacquer. But the more I look at the alder - it is quite figured for Alder - I am thinking oil finish/ no extra colour. With the dark neck, a light body is quite nice. And for sure no pickguard methinks. I have never done an oil only finish on alder before. Pls note sanding is still only up to 80/120 grit at the moment. Open to audience opinions and ideas 😂 Edited August 10, 2021 by HazBeen 2 Quote
Hellzero Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 I would go for a natural finish or a very light honey one which fits alder very nicely. 1 Quote
SpondonBassed Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 The grain looks good. I'd go natural. 1 Quote
HazBeen Posted August 11, 2021 Author Posted August 11, 2021 Consensus I think is natural, and also has me preference. Nice, saved myself some work there 1 Quote
HazBeen Posted August 12, 2021 Author Posted August 12, 2021 And 1 Bubinga headstock cap and trussrod cover …. Check! intentionally left the cap sit a little proud, I think it looks really cool that way. 3 Quote
HazBeen Posted August 12, 2021 Author Posted August 12, 2021 Shielding done and neck ferrules in too….! Basically just a shed load of sanding to do now and finishing with oil. 4 Quote
HazBeen Posted August 12, 2021 Author Posted August 12, 2021 Pretty happy, neck attached to correctly place bridge. And just fit the tunes etc for fun. Going to be a sweet bass….. Put the strings and remaining hardware on top to weigh it = 3.6kg. Oil finish weighs nothing, so pretty close to end weight I’d say. 4 Quote
Hellzero Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 Really love the trussrod cover and headstock cap. Is the trussrod cover magnetic ? Quote

I thought about doing it, but my magnets are all used up and since I do have screws I am going to fix in place with 1 screw. For the pic it was just placed in position, smoke and mirrors 1 Quote
