Not 100% relevent but I have a famous persons name as it is. I'm always torn as to whether to change it, or keep it. (for music purposes, not IRL).

I've got 2 daughters with the same surname which is hwy I've never gotten around to changing it back! :)

My sister did the same thing...... kept her husbands name after the split due to the children’s names at school etc.

Still not changed even though the ‘kids’ are grown up and left home, and she’s been in a relationship with another bloke for a few years.

It may shock some to learn, but the original Damned rhythm section of Rat Scabies and Captain Sensible used stage names! There real names were Chris Miller and Ray Burns.

I like the stage name Awesome Wells.  I hope to get to use it one day.

I can't believe that no-one has mentioned the amazing collection of names/alter-egos present in the fantastically named Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction - featuring amongst others

  • Zodiac Mindwarp (real name Mark Manning)
  • Heavy Metal Bear (real name Alex Bradly)
  • Flash Bastard (real name Jan Cyrka)
  • Kid Chaos (real name Stephen Harris)
  • Suzi X (real name Richard Levy)

And my personal favourite -

Trash D Garbage (real name Paul Bailey)

Arnold George Dorsey changed his name to Gerry Dorsey after his covers of Jerry Lee Lewis hits. He then went on to greater fame having borrowed the name of a 19th Century German composer, Englebert Humperdinck.

How about some which went over peoples (or maybe just mine) heads...….? Here's three

  • Pete Briquette of the Boomtown Rats.... took me years to get that one. I think it's an Irish thing where peat is used as fuel and sold in small bricks.
  • Perry Farrell of Janes Addiction...… meant to be equivalent to 'peripheral'.
  • Steve Nieve of Elvis Costello and the Attractions..... meant to be pronounced 'naive'

Let's not forget 'Unpronouncable symbol' aka prince aka Prince Rogers Nelson

Prince’s symbol looks like it should be pronounced ‘sex trumpet’.
