Dropzone
I am thinking of chuckin an Elf into a barefaced super 12 t to create a combo. Is this madness or genius? Thanks in advance and don't tell Alex
Moos3h
Elf? Good! Super 12T? Good! Elf+Super12T? Oh yeah! Do it.
Downunderwonder
Pretty crazy to carve up a premium cab to comboize it. Even crazier to do that with an Elf which is the least hassle to shift of anything. I don't know that Elf power is enough kick to do that cab justice either.
nikon F
more pointless than madness or genius possibly
King Tut
No don’t do it. You’ll wipe a load off the value of your cab and it’s not really that much hassle to set it up as a rig is it? Madness.
Dropzone
Please don't underestimate how lazy I am. My wife made that mistake.
chris_b
Definitely not a good idea. Do you know what a BF cab looks like inside? There is a complicated bracing system which maintains the strength of the cab. BF cabs are built in a way that every side supports the other. Cut a chunk out of it and you could upset that bracing and reduce the rigidity and strength of the cab, plus reducing the internal volume might change its sound. FinnDave
Strap the Elf on with a luggage strap if you really can't be bothered to carry it separately. I have an Elf, so I know how big and bulky they are! 😂 Edited May 27, 2021 by FinnDave
Dropzone
Hi Dave, that was in option I was considering. I also have an old Mk 1 Compact that is so tired it my be an interesting feature an it has no worth but could be a simple mod.
FinnDave
I use my Elf with a Super Compact and it sounds great, but I just plonk it on top of the cab.

Sounds like it would be an Elf and Safety issue........ I'll get my coat. 2
Bolo
Make it a flip top combo
MartinB
The Elf gets hot and needs airflow, so strapping it to the top of the cab sounds like the best option so far! Maybe attach it with some kind of metal bracket that would also act as a heatsink?

Downunderwonder
Here's how I would do it if I really felt a need, which I don't. Macrame a handle out of paracord. Truss the amp around and around, like your Grandma would tie a brown paper wrapped package with string, with the tails of the macrame handle and onwards around the cabinet. You really don't want to be transporting it with the speakon poking out the back of the cab but you can stuff that end under the string and leave the other plugged in the back of the Elf to satisfy the combo fetish.
FinnDave
My Elf doesn't have speakon output sockets, just jacks. I would estimate it takes about 2 seconds to plug each end in. The combo idea seems to be a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

FinnDave
I have calculated that the time spent sawing cursing, asking for help, etc. building the Elf into the cab, you could have plugged and unplugged the speaker to amp cable 958,326 times. Even as a combo, you'd still have the effort of plugging in the mains lead and the input lead from your bass. My laziness refuses to start considering the work involved in sawing up a cab in order to build a tiny amp into it, and if you do decide to do it I shall have to protect myself form any text or images showing or describing any such work. I am far too delicate to be exposed to such an idea Edited May 28, 2021 by FinnDave

No way to make it flip without taking away a lot of internal volume either.
