Best tribute act names

There's a very VERY good all-girl Pistols (and punk in general) covers band called the Sex Píssed Dolls. We supported them at the Thekla a couple of years ago, they tore the roof off the boat.

IIRC there's a Bagpipe band called the Red Hot Chili Pipers

OT: one of my favourite bits of random nonsense come across on YouTube was a German metal band and a bagpiper doing playing The Riddle to an audience of about two dozen.

In my memory, Dread Zeppelin were a long time ago, before tribute acts as a genre were established. Have there been many other acts which play one band's music in another band style? Depeche Mode played à la Madness would be a fun live experience.

Id like to form a tribute band called Das Schmitt’s doing smiths covers in German, but sounding more like Laibach.

I'm all for more Laibach style cover versions, but I feel The Smiths might be one step too far. No one needs more of them out there...

I can't remember who or what now, but wasn't there a band fronted by an Elvis impersonator that didn't play Elvis songs.

😀 I don’t know…. Picture “How soon is now “ slowed down and doom laden:

Ich bin der Sohn und der Erbe einer Schüchternheit, die kriminell vulgär ist

I'm not sure even Laibach can make me listen to Smiths songs. Although, they managed to get me to listen to some Beatles songs, so there's a chance...

All female (except when Ian Paice guests with them) Deep Purple tribute Strange Kind of Women. All top musicians, had the honour of doing a Blues tour with their guitarist, Eliana Cargnelutti, great player.

Best made up one, which my pal refused to use, Schmeagles.

They weren't a tribute band but I always liked Frankie Goes To Holyhead.

The other non tribute, with a tribute sounding name from around that time The Sid Presley Experience.

They don't exist anymore but my two fave names from the early days of tributes were:

The Six Pastilles - Sex Pistols tribute

The Small Fa(e)ces - Small Faces tribute who were often described as "a little bit sh*t" ;)
