MarkBass CMD 121H Combo

Just bought one of these combos second hand and its fitted with an Eminence Gamma speaker. I thought Markbass cabs/combos were all fitted with Neo drivers or and I mistaken? I just wanted to be 100% sure about this before I call the shop tomorrow.

Shouldn't the speaker have a very offensive yellow cone?

I’d have thought so, although I have had Markbass gear with black speakers in the past.

Also, what would be a suitable (best possible) Neo replacement for it? I'm assuming it would be 300w 8 Ohm.

Pretty sure it should be a neo driver, mine certainly was.

Sounds like it could have been swapped. Don't MB normally use Faital, Sica or B&C speakers? Well one of the Italian companies.

Used to be B&C, now their own OEM brand but as said above, should be a Neo anyway.

I'll be giving the shop a ring in the morning then. I'll hope for a partial refund and get a good Neo driver to replace it as the whole reason for getting this was down to weight. I'm not too bothered about having a yellow speaker in it anyhow!

Yes’m, it should normally be a ‘yellow orangy’ speaker colour....it’s a shame but is there any chance of trying it against a correctly loaded MB combo.....you may prefer the sound of what you’ve got!

It sounds fine at low volume, can't really pump it up at home. Admittedly I only plugged it in to check it worked ok. I have nothing to compare it to but it's more about the weight. As soon as I picked it up I thought that it was heavier than expected.

Does anyone know why Markbass have decided to discontinue the CMD 121H combo?

Maybe to rationalise their speaker cabinet sizes as you can now get the 2X10 in a smaller cab, the same size as the 12" cab? Notice they've also gone to ceramic speakers with the weight saving now in the cabs.
