stewblack
Which UK number one single contains the best bass line. I will kick us off with Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick by Norman Watt-Roy. Also, take a drink when someone tells us it's all 'subjective'. Another drink when we're invited to debate what the word 'best' means. And finish the bottle when someone tells us it's 'impossible'.

Munurmunuh
The bassline to Walking On The Moon is pretty crucial, if not anything especially exciting in itself.
paul_c2
Its impossible to say what the "best" is, its all subjective! Burp!

SteveXFR
I'm not a huge fan of the song but the bass line of Killing In The Name by Rage Against The Machine is a monster. I thought Royal Blood had a number 1 single but it looks like I was wrong.
Nail Soup
Still trying to beat HMWYRS... thought of another one but it only went to No.2. But.......... ....... according to Wikipedia there was some controversy about who was number one. The two records had drawn on sales, and the position was decided on a spurious 'goal difference' system. So if it's permissible I'll post it. Well, after listening to it again to make sure the bass line is actually that good and has not just improved in my memory 🙂 !

I’m glad you agreed..... otherwise I was planning to pollute the thread with comments like - “it’s subjective”, - “define bassline”, - “hey - whatever YOU think Is the best bassline is the best bassline” , - “music isn’t a competition “ and - “well as long as the bassline serves the song......” 🙂 Edited June 6, 2021 by Nail Soup Bullets

However good Rhythm Stick bassline is, I don't think it really moved bass forward as such. Whereas WILMH bassline was innovative and distinctive (plus it supported AND added to the song).👍

Woodinblack
Must be something by abba I would have thought. Unless Japan had number ones no, they didn't, so I guess hysteria by muse, as the song most likely to hear in a bass shop Edited June 6, 2021 by Woodinblack
upside downer
This is a good'un, a fun, bouncy line to play. An important single as it's the first reggae No.1 if you discount 'My Boy Lollipop' by Millie Small.

As for starting the thread with ...Rhythm Stick, that kind of makes the thread redundant straight away. 😄
