I will kick us off with Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick by Norman Watt-Roy. Also, take a drink when someone tells us it's all 'subjective'. Another drink when we're invited to debate what the word 'best' means. And finish the bottle when someone tells us it's 'impossible'. I listened to this on Saturday for the first time listening to tha bass, wow. 2 Quote
bassace Posted June 7, 2021 Posted June 7, 2021 It was good to be alive in ‘66 with a Fender Jazz, belting out the Tops’ Reach Out I’ll be There. 2 Quote

I mentioned earlier that my nomination drew for Number one position with another record, which eventually won on controversial goal difference...… …. well that record was The Joker! So perhaps 15/09/1990 was the battle of the basslines! Quote
Greg Edwards69 Posted June 7, 2021 Posted June 7, 2021 Off the top of my head I’d have to go with Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer”. Great tone and a fantastic groove. I never get bored of playing this one. 2 Quote
The fasting showman Posted June 7, 2021 Posted June 7, 2021 Maybe if ZTT had gone with this version, the Blockheads again. My vote is for Ashes to ashes Quote
Grahambythesea Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 Diamonds by Jet Harris & Tony Meehan. At least you can hear a bass line without trying 🤣 Quote

stewblack Posted June 9, 2021 Author Posted June 9, 2021 I honestly thought I'd won with the song which inspired this thread, but not only have there been some great suggestions, I have been thinking about all those 60s number ones - and oh my those bass lines.. 1 Quote

I remember it being number one and seeing them live and Bruce saying how you guys made us number one with this. Then they played it. No idea what chart it was. Edited June 9, 2021 by ubit Quote

Maybe that's what Bruce was on about? 1 Quote

Yeah, I can remember being chuffed that a band I was into had made it to the top of the charts and he was chuffed about it and gave the crowd plaudits for getting them there. They then played Run to the Hills. Thats where I must have got mixed up. I apologise for my mix up and thanks for that bud. 1 Quote

The internet has told me that Bruce D didn't intend it to be a Maiden song but Steve Harris begged for it. Quote
