Captain Bassman
IMO the best episode of this fantastic series to date. Absolute genius songwriting (Seal) and arranging (Trevor Horn) for a song still played frequently on main stream radio. Unbelievable little gems almost hidden in the orchestration. Gave me chills…
4000
Massive Seal fan here. The first two albums in particular are just fantastic. Future Love Paradise is one of my favourite songs. In fact Seal’s first is one of the albums I’d most liked to have played on. Edited June 9, 2021 by 4000
E sharp
I saw this last night - it was great . I've really enjoyed watching Rick's posts - always entertaining and loads to learn .
Manwithvan
There’s plenty to like about Rick Beato’s videos. No ‘fun’ graphics or visual puns, no pretence of cool. Just dense information and loads of enthusiasm.
uk_lefty
Love it. Being a music theory idiot I find these fascinating, as well as Rick's sheer enthusiasm. I also love the song too, now I love it more.
scalpy
Always loved Seal’s voice but hearing the soloed tracks was great. Presumably Horn on bass as well, whoever it was has class.

Bassman68
It’s a few years ago, but I’m sure I heard mention that Doug Wimbish played some bass on that album?

Will have to take the time to listen! Agree re. Future Love Paradise

Yup, I have heard that Doug, and also possibly Guy Pratt, played on his first album?

Guest
Doug did - check out “Wild” towards the end of the first album. Fantastic bass playing. Not sure about Guy. The second album with Kiss From A Rose says Pino Palladino and Laurence Cottle on bass. However I remember reading that Trevor Horn and Seal were unhappy with the overall result of many of the recorded parts, so loaded them all into samplers and re-did the lot. Possibly only this track survived as the drums and bass “sound” played. I thought the first album was raw and fantastic and had a great sense of machine-type grooves but with a real player feel. The second album is very lush and beautifully engineered but a touch soulless for me. Edited June 10, 2021 by FDC484950

I remember wondering how he got that vocal sound and then the first time I heard him speaking he sounded just the same. It was a real “doh!” moment. C.G
Great share! Seal & Trevor Horn together are unstoppable. It’s solid gold with these two. Try Seal’s Lost My Faith next - the orchestration & vocal over-dubs are killer
