OK, a grand piano, so I could take the innards out of, and turn it into a boat...

A piano. There should be enough wood in it to make a raft and you can use the wire to tie it all together.

According to the spreadsheet that this guy has compiled, the only guest to choose a bass guitar was Linton Kwesi Johnson, while Gerald Moore and Mark Rylance asked for double basses.

I think I'd choose an instrument I couldn't play well, so I could use the time to learn it.

(Security, please eject the heckler at the back who said 'so a bass guitar then')

An Octobass is a musical instrument like a large double bass. I am sure that is allowed. 😊

I've given this some thought in the past.  Unsure whether it's a luxury or not, but (assuming I'd be stranded wearing glasses), I'd go for a really good pair of nail clippers.

I can't bite my nails, never have been able to.  I don't have a Windsoresque horsey overbite or anything, but the layout of my front gnashers is such that nails go unbitten; they just don't work for that.

Either my tv, DVD player and dvds or my books, I think if completely deserted and no chance of getting off of it these would keep my mind more occupied.
