nintk
I have Levinson blade guitar which is about 30years old and is apparently a prototype that never made into production (was made in Japan) and may well be the only one in the world according to the manufacturer. I was wondering if anyone knew how much it would cost if I were to buy it now. Thanks
LukeFRC
if it is a one of how could you buy it now? surely you would be buying it of yourself in that case?

bass_ferret
The problem with unique basses is there is nothing to bass a valuation on.
LukeFRC
apparently Levinson were 20yrs old in 2007 so its unlikely to be 30 years old, looks nice though
nintk
I've been in touch with with the manufacturer and they said it may be that old as it was prototype. unfortunately they haven't get much information about the guitar atm but they definitely confirmed that it is genuine prototype as they have record of the serial number. I got this bass from my uncle who still lives in Japan and keen bassist.
Al Heeley
Uh-oh - no pickups or bridge, screwdriver by your feet - the telltale signs are there, have you been naughty?
bass_ferret
They were/are great basses but if you are looking for a valuation it will be difficult. There is a trade guitar book, a bit like Glasses guide for cars, but as its trade only its hard to get hold of. If you want an insurance valuation you may have to go to a specialist shop like V&R etc. If you want to sell it pick a price and see what you get. Go in high and if nobody bites it is too expensive. You could try PM to Bass Assassin (AKA Captain Japcrap).
YouMa
Sorry to piss on the fire but unless you find an actual collector i dont think its going to be worth a lot,i had a blade guitar,i still have the gig bag, good guitar though.

Hat to take it off to paint the body. Anyone know any levinson collector? I'm not gona sell it but i'd like to know how much it'll be Edited March 28, 2009 by nintk
warwickhunt
Levinson aren't really mainstream enough to warrant many 'collectors' of their instruments so I wouldn't pin hopes on getting a huge valuation, especially as your bass is refinished! The problem with prototypes is that it would be far too easy for someone to stick the neck onto a homemade body and claim it was 'unique'... and before you leap to refute that, I'm NOT saying that is the case here BUT it can be one of the reasons that getting a value on such an instrument would be difficult. Could your relative who gave you the bass not give you an idea of value? If you don't want to sell it then tbh the value is pretty immaterial isn't it? If it helps you I've seen early Blade basses sell on eBay for £500ish, while one was advertised (but afaik didn't sell) on here for £750... oh and the Blade that sold for £150 needed a refin! greyparrot
They are great guitars (i had one) and personally i would keep it original rather than restore it, unless its for your self, Rich.
sixshooter
Blade are vastly underated as both guitars and basses. I have 2 of their guitars one costing £280 and one £500, (original price £1400). Trouble is because they are not a main stream name they do not sell for a lot, (which is good if you are buying but not if you are selling). I would suggest in good condition this would be worth between £300 - £400, even as a prototype, now if it was a prototype Fender, that would be a different matter! A refinish is a great way to knacker the 'collectors' stature of any bass unfortunately.

warnan
i've got a used blade b2 limited edition. built in 1996. well built and sounds pretty good but not like fender at all. it has 2volume 1master tone and bass/treble stacked. very versatile adjustment. also has a trim pot on preamp pcb. maybe gain or mid boost......
