Usually I assume anyone choosing anything other than tort is drunk or suffering from a brain injury.

However, it appears that life is not so straightforward as I thought.

Bought a tort guard for one of my PB50s and it didn't work 🤷🏻‍♂️. On either of them.

Go (as the Americans say) figure.

Lovely to see so many dimensions on here! I’m a massive fan… I just can’t stop touching it! 😲

So far I think my order of pref is now:

1. brown tort

2. black

3. Red tort

4. Black pearl

Hmm. Need to make me a gallery. Wish I had photoshop and the ability to use it!

Right. We’re going with brown tort - @Reggaebass takes the points for this round. Genuine thanks for all the input folks… I love the fact that other people in this world care about the small (but important!) stuff.

If anyone with experience of WD ‘guards knows what “clear removable masked top” means then please enlighten me! I guess “protective, removable covering to protect it in transit”?! I’ll mail them. Now to check thickness and bevel angle… who knew?!

wdmusic

Made from four layer faux brown tortoise PVC material consisting of faux brown tortoise shell/cream/black/cream with a clear removable masked top. Thickness .110 in./2.79mm.”

I liked the black at first but the parchment white one grew on me.

Mine is just like this but with Rotosound black nylon wound strings, it looks very good.

Anything is an improvement over white, can't stand white pickguards, they really make a bass look cheap. Just recently swapped the white pearloid pickguard on my Ibanez Mezzo for a black pickguard and it looks so much better

What colour is your Mezzo? I've got the sparkly sea foamish green version and am considering swapping to a black plate too. A picture would be ace if possible?🙂

White plates always look a bit 'cabaret' to me 😄

Is the red one, I hate white pickguards as they look so cheap, also I felt that as it was such a lovely colour it seemed a shame to have such a cr*p colour pickguard, the black pickguard was a huge improvement

Thanks @shoulderpetThat looks really classy, think I'll get a black one ordered too - some interesting mods there!

That IS a nice red. Looks great with the black and maple. Never played an Ibby I didn’t like. My old BTB will need to be buried with me. Too heavy to use any more but it’s a good ‘un!

And not to hijack the thread but now having 1 spare pickguard I did what any self respecting basschatter with a Halfords 5 minutes walk away and got some spray paint for my spare pickguard so now I have a gold one as well, not sure which one I prefer

The gold is even nicer in my opinion!

Thanks, still can decide, I think the only sensible thing to do is get another Mezzo bass and slap a black pickguard on it  lol

It's interestingly shaped end beyond the row of knobs seems to be particularly enjoying the change to tort

It’s a 5 ply guard, so a touch deeper than standard… at certain angles it IS pleasing to the eye 😁

Who let him into Tort-fest?

The annoying thing is that I’m a bit bored with the harshness of my black plate on my white / rosewood P and I want a change and I don’t want white…
