Another issue i would like to report (maybe you already have the solution!).

I would like to use a sequencer to make the edition of sounds easier (no need to handle bass or play a keyboard to hear a sound make the process a lot faster).

So i use a virtual midi cable (loopbe1) to patch the MIDI out of CUBASE 13 to the midi keyboard input of FI editor. However, this makes FI editor unstable at times, it may freeze and quit occasionally, and when i re-open, i have to redo the MIDI port selection : FI input device is deselected, and when i re-select it (it's my audio interface MIDI port, a ZOOM UAC-8), then it quits immediately. I have to reboot my computer to make it work again.

I'm not particularily stuck to cubase for this, neither LoopBE1, so if you have lighter alternative just to program a couple of notes i loop, i'll gladly give a try.

What instrument mode are you playing in? You need to be in synth mode.

Oh, i didn't knew this.

Shame, because once i programmed the sound more or less to my liking, i take my bass to fine-tune how it plays and sound with some blend of "real" bass on it...  And sometimes i go back to midi loop to fine-tune other aspect of the synth sound... You get the idea. So having to switch the pedal back and forth between BASS and SYNTH mode kind of gets in the way.

after the update, I downloaded presets from the global storage. I downloaded preset 48 from the 4.0 sound bank. no problem. but it's not in bank 4.11.

It is though, as per my screenshot.

 

Is your screenshot taken of the GLOBAL directory (the web-based one) or from your LOCAL directory (the one stored on your computer)? I suspect the latter and you’ve overwritten it somehow. Just download the individual file and save it to the relevant folder.

 

If it is however the global directory, let me know as I’d need to investigate. I doubt it though as the directory populates from the web repository and the files are correct there.

It will be available as a fully-assembled unit alongside the standard sized one. (I’m hopeful that further down the line, there’ll be a mini-housing-only option for people who already own the standard version; I’ve obviously suggested this.)

 

I do know when it’s predicted to be available but I’m not at liberty to say. It is relatively soon though.

Just came across this post on Talkbass - really nice plug for the FI Mk4:

 

"I’m either crazy or stupid, but I absolutely love bass synth pedals! Like a guitarist with OD and distortion pedals, I’m nuts for the synth. I have a C4 (which was actually my very first pedal) an FI v.4, 2 Enzos, a DigiTech Bass Synth Wah, a Boss SY-300, and now an Enzo X. I’m selling one of my original Enzos to a friend. I got the SY-300 for a crazy price last year, but I’m not crazy about it and plan to sell soon.

If you want my advice (feel free to disregard), hang on to that FI if you have the ability. It’s a fantastic pedal that you don’t have to worry about settings during gigs. The real UI is done in a DAW, but there’s enough you can do with the factory patches using the basic pedal UI to keep things fresh and interesting. There are certain sounds on the FI that I’ve never been able to replicate using other synths. For me, the FI is all about having fun. It’s not about creating patches from scratch.

The Enzo X is a different beast. It’s better for deep editing and experimentation. It’s about creating patches. The UI is part of the pedal itself, as I’m sure you know. I didn’t have the money to get it, ended up using credit, as I’d been waiting for it since I tried an LVX!"

Physical dimensions are 125 x 85 x 60 mm or 4.9 x 3.3 x 2.4 inch, weight is 330 g

 

Internals are identical to standard FI4 units.

Oh that is a huge improvement. ok, clearly that knob next to the right footswitch is going to be crushed after a while, but still its a better pedalboard friendly thing, might have to pick up one of those when they are available

The sides are raised to avoid this. You could also add a large button topper.

Indeed, either way it is a much better design, both from a pedal board space point of view and asthetically, with more than a nod to the original deep impact so well done those people.

Red shall be the colour.

 

There was a blue version which two of us really liked but an executive decision was taken that it was to be red for this. (I also pointed out that the red was a nice tip of the hat to the Deep Impact.)

@Quatschmacher you mentioned "neural net" refinements would be happening to some of the patches, and which will also lead to further improvements to tracking.

 

What's the story there and what sort of timeframe?

That’s a global thing that will improve tracking across the board. In a nutshell, a neural network will be fed real-world audio clips. Anything that causes mistriggers will be analysed and the code modified to eliminate these.
