I think the whole festival was put together in a really short amount of time and all of the bands did it for free, which probably contributed to the lack of bigger bands too. Quote

While that's true, other than the veteran Brit bands I originally mentioned, over the last decade or so the big draws at Download have been US bands and a number from non-English speaking countries.
