Leonard Smalls Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 Reminds me of Roxy Bowie Nite at Angels when I were a yoof: As does this: 5 Quote
Mykesbass Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 (edited) @EBS_freak beat me to the Gipsy Kings, so here's another French track from around that time - Les Negresses Vertes Edited June 21, 2021 by Mykesbass 2 Quote
Cat Burrito Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 A 60s belter of a tune that I personally stumbled across in the mid 90s 2 Quote
Waddo Soqable Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 Was about to suggest DAF der Mussolini, but Mr Smalls beat me to it ! Quote
The fasting showman Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 (edited) I would have preferred a version without subtitles personally but there you go. Edited June 21, 2021 by The fasting showman text 4 Quote
Waddo Soqable Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 We did a minimalist cover of this decades ago with just me on double bass and a mate singing, wish we'd recorded it as he did a bang up job of the vocals, especially as he didn't actually speak French... 2 Quote
nekomatic Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 I know it's not originally hers, but… she's Kirsty innit Quote
Old Man Riva Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 His original is a bit more laid back and bossa-ish. I love this more ‘pumped up’ version… 2 Quote
casapete Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 Love this version of La Bamba. Los Lobos are a great band from east LA, and they apparently got a bit fed up of everyone thinking this song defined them. Formed in 1973 and still with the same 4 original members, they've made some great albums in both Spanish and English. I've seen them twice, and they did a great acoustic section of traditional Mexican material ( like La Bamba is of course). Quote

The song is real ear worm and a blast to play and sing. Quote

Agreed - Los Lobos were featured in the 1987 film 'La Bamba' which was a biopic based on Ritchie Valence. Quote

EBS_freak Posted June 21, 2021 Author Posted June 21, 2021 One thing I am beginning to notice... is that non english language songs seem to have a more novelty edge to them... Quote
