Fender 70s fretless neck on an unknown body

Recommended Posts

Saw that, the board is probably screwed however (and by no means an easy fix, I've had to pay for two similar examples to be fixed over the years), and there's no way apparently of viewing before buying. Even at its current price I'd keep clear given that. Money going to charity is a bonus of course :)

The side on pic of the neck makes it appear to have quite a dip around the 5th fret, maybe just my old eyes or the way the photo's taken, but it struck me when I first saw it, then I put a straight edge up to it 🙄

Looks like a bitsa assembled around a 70s neck & a cheap modern body. As ever, the big oversprays on the contours indicate it's almost certainly ply, butcher-block if you're lucky, but absolutely not solid timber. Faintly amusing it's wearing a June 1980 Fujigen Gakki neckplate which I am entirely confident is not related to any other part of the bass!

Mildly curious to see what it goes for, & how much someone's willing to pay for unclear provenance and a lot of problems...

Close to £500, I hope that neck is better than it looks, the problem with those necks however is that they're usually quite a lot worse than they look, as soon as the finish on the board wears through the board itself chews up very quickly, requiring that both the board be trued and refinished even to make it playable.

And then you've got whatever the hell happened to the headstock, which appears to have been used as an oar at some stage in its life.

And then there's the body........

However, as I imagine it's been bought by a bassist/musician (I can't imagine a dealer or collector being interested), I sincerely wish them all the best, especially as the sale was for charity :)
