ash_sak
Ok well, i have a fretless jazz, style, bass. Not a fender or anything, twos actually made for me by some guy...i would say who but to be honest i dont know. The problem is, i've had the bass for a few months now and really dislike playing it cause i get a really uneven output from it, the D and G string are much quieter than the A and E and also the output can just vary from time to time so it sounds like the noise is cutting in and out. I have tried lowering the D and G strings but this doesn't help so i was wondering if anyone thought it could be a pick up problem? I think it could be, as that would explain the varying output, i dont know how it would but i think it would. Has anyone else had a similar problem and if so can they suggest any solutions. Thanks. hubrad
If the ovaries, this suggests some faulty part or (more likely) soldering. Pickups are pretty reliable until they get trashed. I'd get it checked out by someone who does wiring. Possibly the maker?

Telebass
The other thing that can make the strings sound so different is actually the strings themselves. Worth a shot if you're near to changing them anyway.
