Courier insurance

What are you sending, and who are you sending it with? If it's not a prohibited item or excluded from the carriers insurance - probably cheaper to go with the courier.

I was looking at DPD. There’s a small combo and I’m returning an amp head and a cab (separate parcels) to a shop. Booking through Parcel2Go the insurance adds £40 to the total cost.

Can you not book direct with DPD? Isn't that cheaper, the intermediary (P2G) needs to make their £ someway (ripping you off with insurance!).

Have you looked at UPS? They are normally my go to when shipping music gear. Whatever you do, pack it well so you don't need to rely on insurance :)

Oddly enough I've compared booking couriers direct and through 3rd party companies... 3rd party is always cheaper.  UPS through Interparcel is/was 40% cheaper than direct with UPS!  I think it is something to do with bulk ordering/delivery.

That’s exactly what I’ve just found too, I just got a quote direct through DPD’s website.

I would be aware that unless dealing direct with a courier, dealing through a company like parcel2go is a little precarious…..they show all the different couriers on their own website and there are some great deals but, go into insuring and if anything goes amiss, you will be probably not be dealt with by them ( ie Parcel2Go or whoever) but you’ll have to start contacting the courier you chose. It should in theory work!

Not 100% correct.  I had to claim through Interparcel for a bass damaged by UPS; Interparcel settled the claim pretty quick after I supplied evidence.

I have a few items of equipment to send. The total value is about £900, I’m always wary of posting expensive items uninsured, it’s quite a lot of money though.

I came across this company and wondered if anyone had any experience of them?

I'm wracking my brains, but I have been told about them and they were recommended - I just can't remember who sent me the link, but I am sure it was a pro player.

As I said, ‘it should in theory work’ and happily yours did. My own experience with a so called lost package was quite different and only after a huge amount of phone calling did I find out where my music goods were, literally a mile from the sellers house in the couriers own warehouse and I suspect, it would have stayed there had I not persevered. Parcel2go at that time we’re not great to deal with. I’m sure a major percentage of our Basschat colleagues have no problems but it might be worth checking.
