So 2 ECC82s, 2 ECC83s and 2 KT88s?

I must admit, although I have the circuit diagram, I have never actually looked inside mine, as it just worked! Mind you, mine is pre-production so it could be different.

Seems odd for a pre-owned, you think they would have at the very least turned it on

Valves are......

2x ECC832

2x ECC82

2x KT88

Judging by the serial number it was made in China in 2013. Must be an early example.

They now have a different valve set up in the latest version.

I don't think they even turned it on.

Now its 3.30pm and I've still not turned it on.

Wow, that’s really disappointing, it’s a good job you had a look first , I wouldn’t have thought of that, I don’t know much about the insides 🙂

I luckily have 20 years of experience with using valve hi-fi amps so I've learnt my lessons the hard way.... Always check a valve amp when you receive it.

I've now switched it on and the kt88 valves will not bias correctly... They work but sound under powered and the amp hums.

It will cost around £180 for a new set of valves.

Suddenly it seems like an expensive second hand amp.

So not a mint condition product then ?

Ive had some howlers from Andertons and that’s for new goods …

Mint my donkey...

There are numerous dings and cuts to the tolex. It's been gigged and used regularly.

Still waiting for Andertons to ring back.

Phone Ashdown. I bought a second hand CTM100 a couple of years ago, it was in terrible condition. I sent it to Ashdown and had a call from Dave Green, he said he thought it had been living in a swimming pool due to its condition 😅 A complete set of new power valves and preamp valves and a general clean up was significantly cheaper than buying the valves separately. Significantly…

that's what the valves should be isn't it? That's what it says on the circuit diagram I have

i didn't think any were made in China, I thought all the ctms were made here and the others made in China. Mine is the first, ie, not one of the first, the one the others are based on by some strange quirk of fate.

never looked inside though

Very,  more than mine and that works! Aren't you just going to send it back?

Some CTMs have been made in China… my swimming pool one was 🙂

Most are UK built though.

I didn't know that, I thought they were all done here.

I know mine is UK - will have a look in it to see what its valves are, it was the original circuit, so I assume it is the diagram I have.

Gotta take some pictures for selling anyway.

After a call to Andertons this morning the amp is going back for a complete refund.

The amp I have has made in China on the back.

The amp was supplied with the wrong valves. It came with ECC83 valves not ECC833 that is clearly written on the amp it self.

The bass specialist said they tested it and it "worked" so they were not prepared to sort out a new set of valves even though it ..

1. Had the wrong input valves.

2. The KT88 power tubes would not bias correctly and were worn out.

3. The driver tubes 2x ECC82 were very noisy and worn made in China cheap valves.

The amp also came in a large box with very little internal packaging. In fact it consists of four 1m strips of brown packing paper... Yes paper for a valve amp........ Crazy.

So my hunt goes on....

Ahhh shame.  It'll be interesting to see if they rectify the amp before offering it back for sale.  :/

After a little interweb search I found out the amp had been previously sold for £499 from Rich Tone. Even at £499 it will need around £180 spent on quality valves.

Sounds terrible - wonder how it got in that condition?

Also wonder if they are just going to take it back and ship it out to the next unsuspecting sucker. Reminds me to not get S/H stuff from andertons.
