binky_bass
S734491 puts it at 1977 I believe. Edited July 21, 2021 by binky_bass
Hellzero
You have to check the rest of the bass and the date codes on pots, the date stamps on pickups, ... Then you can have the real manufacturing date. The serial number by Fender has always been approximative, especially before 1983. S7 should mean 1977, but it's not a certitude at all.

binky_bass
It'd help your sale if you could provide the actual date of the bass - almost all the comments above are querying the build date.

SurroundedByManatees
I have a S8 Fender Jazz which dates to 1981, so indeed these late 70s serials can cover a few years. Sometimes you can distinguish the 70s ones from the early 80s ones by looking at the countouring. As the early 80s can have a deeper belly cut and more rounded contours than a 70s instrument. These were the first steps forward in consistent quality towards the American vintage range and other Dan smith era models, which were very well built. Here you can see the difference between both s8 serial jazz basses. The last picture shows one (mine) that has been finished in 1981.
