Rich Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 Not often you find a new cab that is more pounds weight than it is pounds sterling. Quote
Marvin Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 Someone found a use for those left over Wharfedale grills then. Quote
la bam Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 I saw this very cab in pmt manchester. Weirdest cab I've ever seen. Couldnt work out if it was a bass cab, a hifi, a powered pa system etc - just one weird - but interesting - looking thing. Quote
TheGreek Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 I wish I hadn't looked.... I really don't need any more cabs!! Quote

The Wharfdales and Albion were made (or at least designed) by the same person (Steve Grindrod). Although Albion were previously a much more boutique amp. The one above looks like it's something cobbled together from leftovers. Could be a bargain though if it's anything like the Wharfdales. I still have mine (2x10 + 1x15) as my primary cabs. They were an absolute steal, they're still going strong after about 2 years and they still sound great. Edited July 19, 2021 by Newfoundfreedom 1 Quote

Beer of the Bass Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 The 1x15“ looks like a reasonable deal, I might point those out to a friend who was looking out for a smallish cab for home studio use. Quote
PaulWarning Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 can't see the weight anywhere. Remember folks, it's only a bargain if you really need it anyway 1 Quote

thodrik Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 8 ohm impedance, because you really need to stack two of them to get the most out of your amp. Quote
Happy Jack Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 In fairness that's the "shipping weight" so may include a load of packaging. Quote
warwickhunt Posted July 19, 2021 Author Posted July 19, 2021 Lets be honest the cab design and switching etc are a bit... gimmicky at best but if I'd been offered a 'new' BFO cabinet for £120 when I was starting out I'd have been deaf with a hernia by the age of 20! Especially if I'd bought 2 of them to get 4 ohms (which I would). 2 Quote

From the manual I found lurking online, it appears that the others are 2 heavy-duty 10" midrange emphasised Albion driers. I have to say they come across as very capable. As warwick says, if I'd been able to pick up such a cab at this price when I was young/fit/starting out (and this price is the equivalent of £42 back then..! I paid 100 secondhand for my first 4x12 cab and thought I'd got a bargain), I'd have been all over it like a rash. Edited July 19, 2021 by Rich 2 Quote

As I said above. I have found then to be absolutely superb, and great value for money. It looks like they've now rebranded them back to Albion. Quote

Beer of the Bass Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 I think if I needed a lot of cab cheaply and stumbled across these, I'd go for two 1x15s rather than the 6x10, for about the same price. It just seems like there would be fewer potential pitfalls. 2 Quote
