The necks on Musicman basses do darken quite nicely with age and use - but the combination with the white body looks great. Many years ago I saw a Stax musical and the bass player used an SR5 (white/maple) and the board looked like rosewood in some lights, it was that dark. Birthdate is actually 5th Dec 1989 (the bass, not me! ) so will be 33 years old by the end of the year. To be fair, the neck is probably a tad lighter than that in the picture but is nicely aged all the same. The only mod is the white pearl guard I fitted many years ago to replace the original white guard.
drTStingray
An early one then - I love these old SR5s but this one looks great - I did exactly the same with mine (replacing the scratch plate with a white Pearl one).
lee650
Great Thread I still can't get my head around EB bringing out a budget line and calling it Sterling (CEO vanity perhaps) I have a full fat EB USA Sterling, and it's sublime. The quality of the finish and the very slim neck as well as very sturdy high Quality hardware make it a joy to play. I owned it years ago and part traded it, I was very lucky to manage to get it back. It has a one piece Ash body with very unique grain and a matched headstock. It was modded by a previous owner with a Nordstrand vintage pickup, So it has the vintage voiced Alnico pickup, making it sound closer to a Stingray. I occasionally think I could sell it and get one off the far East Sterling SB and unlock some cash, but then I pick it up and I know id regret it. The USA made Sterlings are so well made and as stated smaller bodies and thin necks, great for smaller fellows like me 😁 also they are good enough for Joe Dart etc 😂 Edited July 28, 2021 by lee650
dub_junkie
Just owned a USA Sterling for a short while and sold it to help out another bass player after one. After a number of years not owning one, it was noticeable to me just how ridiculously good they are. The neck and tone, the ergonomics and the playability were just fantastic. I’m GASsing hard for another one.

He offered them to me for silly money just to move them on but i didnt fancy them at the time. Think i had just splashed out on a Mesa rig and a bit skint. He was from Glasgow area.
